Pike & Shotte by tuffyears

We start this week's Community Spotlight with a look at some Historical wargaming goodness. Started around ten years ago, tuffyears was tempted to dive into the English Civil War Pike & Shotte alongside their brother. Alas, it didn't quite come to pass but with the appearance of the Epic range from Warlord Games and some help from community member James Cutts, the project can begin again!

Pike & Shotte #1 by tuffyears

The project that tuffyears is going to be diving into is set around the Somerset Campaigns but with the Parliamentarians painted in the form of the New Modelled Army. There will be some awesome miniatures coming together for both them and the Royalists.

So far, the painting project has begun with a mixture of both Contrast and normal paints from Citadel being used to bring the miniatures to life. As you can see, they are turning out great and they look superb when they are all ranked up.

Work has already gone into the Parliamentarians but there is also work on the Royalists who are looking particularly glorious. There has been some nice detail in this project so far and I think it's great to see an old idea getting a new run out in a different scale. I always think it's nice coming back to ideas that maybe didn't quite the cut, especially if you can get into it with others.

Legions Imperialis by gorram

Moving on, we're sticking to a smaller scale for our wargaming. Here, we have gorram's work on their Legions Imperialis miniatures and the Sons Of Horus.

Sons Of Horus #1 by gorram

gorram is a big fan of wargaming on a smaller scale with huge armies on the tabletop. They also knew they were going to go hard when it came to the game and getting the miniatures painted. As you can see, gorram has properly shown that with the amount of work that has gone into these miniatures. All of the Sons Of Horus troops, tanks and more look awesome.

Sons Of Horus #2 by gorram

That blue on the armour looks great and I think the little touches here and there make them pop. The use of a few metallic spot colours and the lights allow you to focus in on what units are what. I also really like the basing for these miniatures which serve as a good frame for the miniatures.

Sons Of Horus #3 by gorram

Everything that has been painted so far is stunning and whilst gorram has been talking about burnout, I think these miniatures look fantastic. The army has sold that "Epic" vibe and I think it will be brilliant when these miniatures make it onto a tabletop. I hope that we get to see these miniatures playing out some battles on the tabletop. Brilliant stuff.

A New Beginning by gmandingle

Last but not least, we're looking at something a bit different. gmandingle has recently moved into a new house and got themselves a brand new hobby space. With that in mind, they are looking to dive back into their painting. They have been particularly enamoured by The Old World and working on some "Middlehammer" miniatures.

New Hobby Space #1 by gmandingle

The miniature is looking great and it's awesome to see someone diving back into their hobby in a new space. I also like that this is the first step in something pretty epic. The Empire has always been a stunning army to see on the tabletop and so I wish gmandingle all the best when it comes to building this army. The idea is going to be focused on a Stirland/Ostermark and I am all for that.

What I also think is great is that we're seeing someone's hobby space growing and turning into something awesome. It's great to have a dedicated space to do some hobby! gmandingle has particularly asked for folks to share their feedback on their hobby space so they can work out what they're missing out on.

New Hobby Space #2 by gmandingle

I think this is looking pretty good so far. Hopefully, folks will head on over to the project and give gmandingle some enthusiastic advice and get them diving deeper into their hobby. I like that Warhammer: The Old World is on the cards plus some work on a roleplaying game they have going on.
