Games Workshop will be skirmishing in the Mortal Realms as well as the grimdark future this weekend. Pre-orders are going to be fired up for their Fantasy skirmish game, Warhammer Age Of Sigmar: Bloodhunt which comes with two new 28mm plastic warbands.

The newest set, which was only previewed a couple of weeks ago, features two new warbands, updated rules, terrain, cards and more for playing out games of Warcry. Whilst a lot of people are very taken with the miniatures from Kill Team, I personally think that Warcry is the better skirmish game. It seems more accessible, easier and quicker to play without a whole host of odd widgets needed to play.

When it comes to warbands, the set comes with miniatures for the Claws Of Karanak. These worshippers of Khorne are pretty excited about the idea of spilling blood and, you guessed it, they come with some pretty savage rules for ripping and tearing through your foes.

If you'd prefer to abstain from too much blood then you might want to dive into the second of the warbands from the set, the Askurgan Trueblades. These vampire monks have managed to (mostly) conquer their need for blood and channel their energy into being adept and deadly warriors.

There are some fun Eastern vibes to their design and it's good to see that Warcry is still a good way for Games Workshop to explore the variety and depth of the Mortal Realms. This is another reason why I like Warcry over Kill Team. It seems like the design team gets to be more inventive which is one of the benefits of having such a vast and unexplored "world" to explore.

As well as the new set, this is also going to be your chance to get your hands on two of the warbands from the previous set. Here we have the Hunters Of Huanchi, an excellent band of Chameleon Skinks who are going to be ambushing their way through the Gnarlwood.

The second of the sets feature the mysterious forces of The Jade Obelisk.

Giving themselves over to the strange and ethereal being that promises untold power, these cultists are slowly being turned into living stone. Again, incredibly inventive and I love that Warcry still explores the idea of warbands of warriors who have pledged themselves to the Dark Gods without truly understanding what or who they are. It was one of the elements of the first Warcry set that totally caught my eye.

Could you be tempted to dive into the new Warcry set or perhaps snap up an existing warband?
