Weekender: X-Wing Wave 7 & Delving Into Undercity Board Game
May 9, 2015 by lloyd
It's time to get stuck into another weeks worth of tabletop gaming with The Weekender where we kick things off by delving deep into the Undercity from Privateer Press...
Undercity Adventure Board Game
This is a fantastic looking new board game coming out of Privateer Press for their Iron Kingdoms range and while it isn't a role-playing game it has loads of awesome mechanics that drive your characters through a campaign like narrative where they grow and develop.
It's also incredibly brutal and combat focused - but what else would you expect from Privateer Press?
X-Wing Wave 7
Of course we couldn't miss out on the new Wave 7 Ships for Star Wars: X-Wing by Fantasy Flight Games either. There are four new smaller ships for the game added to the three different factions you can play.
We also take a look at the impressively huge Imperial Raider and more that just make you gawp when you see them.
Suicide Squad & New Batman Models
Movie news also bought us word that the Suicide Squad had been completely cast now and alongside seeing a new cast picture we also have a whole new range of Batman Miniatures Game miniatures from Knight Models too!
Home Raiding!
Last but not least the amazingly charming and fun Home Raiders is live on Kickstarter today so make sure to go and check it out!
What has caught your eye from this week in wargaming?

Happy Saturday! 😀
Happy Saturday everyone!
Corvis is the main setting for the Witchfire Trilogy, which is one of the classic pieces of work put out by Privateer Press for the Iron Kingdoms back when they were putting out d20 books.
I just backed Home Raiders.
The Joker won’t have the tattoos in the movie. They were just for the promotional image.
That’s a pity I liked that touch 🙂
For those thinking about joining backstage I’d say just go for it the guys bring all aspect of the hobby undergone one roof and inject it with genuine gamer enthusiasm that keeps you smiling.
Looking forward to XLBS on Sunday as BoW are now an essential part of my weekend!
Oh yes, I been on board for a long time – I think it where during the first call out way back when. .. But it includes so much more now, not that I regret being in it for the long haul
Great show as always
Another good show guys. I seem to agree with your comments on the joker. Looks like a spoiled child in the picture I guess.
X-Wing – looking forward to the Imperial Raider. Great show folks!
+1 for the Backstager
The additional videos and vlogs are worth it alone
Damn you BoW – over the last 24 hours you cost me 200£ and that is not counting the flight and extras in June 🙂
Infinity Bootcamp and Home Raiders, and I love it 🙂
Good to see Llyod in the hot seat! Happy Sat!
Great show boys! Love the X-Wing coverage. More of the same please. Oh @Llyodd try a phantom. Whisper with advance cloak will eat the rebels alive!
Nice one -Raiders have smashed SG#1 already so Egyptian Penguin Lords of Dust inbound on SG#2 shortly…
#sorrynotmyjoker
Undercity is really looking good, will definitely be picking up a copy. I like wave 7, I know there are a lot of grumblings about some of the ships and the expanded universe but I think they are cool.
As for suicide squad one for DVD I feel
What caught my eye this week : http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/historical-games/forum/topic/playtesting-new-home-game-aces-high/ @oriskany at it again with a new game
“Doesn’t look heroe enough” because they are not heroes?
Extra Munitions is much better than you described by the way: It takes up a Torpedo slot, but then gives an extra shot to EVERY other Torpedo, Missile and Bomb card that you’ve equipped, rather than only applying to a single card. Taking a fully loaded Punisher as an example, those 2 points could be giving you 5 extra shots 🙂
Aww, the WW 2.5 game is down. 🙁
Star Wars ships look amazing though
It’s cool, WW 2.5 was hardly bolted to the building, I’m sure. Hey, maybe someone took it off the shelf to play it. 🙂
The Star Wars ships indeed look great. I wish we could get some “confirmed” opponents before we make that kind of $$$ investment, though
Nice to see X-Wing making a bigger appearance on the show. Some battle reports would great if you can manage to cram them into your already crowded schedule.
I was particularly interested to hear Lloyd say that he preferred to have a focus (usually provided by a bigger ship) in the game otherwise it was just a cloud of fighters shooting at each other. While this is fun enough for a while I absolutely agree. In our case we quickly found ourselves devising narrative scenarios to add some depth. Interestingly enough this has become quite a thing with Fantasy Flight hosting scenarios on their Mission Control website.
Woot thank god its the Weekend!!!
Any chance of a marvels miniatures game?
Waiting a whole year for a massive ship? That could get uncomfortable for the Imperial players 😉
I love Weekenders : D
..but this one was so boring. Poor choice of topics ?
Kinda agree. I miss Warren.
I respectfully disagree. For an X-WIng player like myself, it was a very interesting show.
Another great Weekender!!!!!!!
Excellent show as always guys and extra nice piece on the awesome game that is X-Wing. See you all tomorrow on XLBS.
Great weekender guys, like seeing X-wing :). Don’t sweat the the cr-90 we have yet to have it live through a game. Scum is quickly becoming a fun faction to play. Mainly as they have some different maneuvers available to them.
interesting show love the bigger starwars ships.
gewn staharly that is all
I truly want Undercity, specially because i can make a 25 pts Cephalyx army with most of the content and a few models that i already have ( yep… i have a great female proxy for the Exulon Thexus :3 )
That Undercity game looks pretty much like “War Machine does Star Wars: Imperial Assault” to me. Though, 7 missions seems a little light for a campaign.
All your X-Wing deployment problems solved with 2 purchase from Poundland:

Loom Bands are useful after all! Although, if I were to give a better tip, make stacks up of Stress/evade/focuses instead of putting them all together like that.
Another thing I like doing is putting the ID tokens on my ships to match their pilot Skills. So, for example, if I have a TIE Academy Pilot squadron, the ship ID Tokens I use are: 1, 10, 11, 21, 31, 41 and then I give “Howlrunner” Token number 8. It’s then easy to think of 11 as actually ‘One-One” then “Two-One” etc…
I’ve got to say, X-Wing wave 7 is the biggest dud of a wave in X-Wing for me. Ok, fine, new combos, tactics whatever but…
The Hounds Tooth, ok, fine, I can deal with that, because Bossk the Trandoshan is neat and I like that mechanic idea. However, it’s still a box with wings.
Kh-unpronouncible Fighter. – Bleh, it just looks like some random generic fighter. It could be from any universe out there. There are plenty other Star Wars fighter designs (R-41 Starchaser, T-Wing), that could have had exactly the same stats / effect in game, that just looked more Star Wars-ey. Gamewise, the general stats of the ship is identical to the X-Wing, not the Y-Wing, except with 1 less shield and 1 more hull (which just means, same basic hit points, but it’s more susceptible to crits). Sure, we don’t know the manoeuvres yet, but I imagine they’ll be mostly identical to an X-Wing’s, except maybe with the green dials of a Z-95 Headhunter. Basically, I’d say this fighter = X-Wing, with the Starviper being more similar to the Rebel’s E-Wing.
K-Wing: Just completely overdone, it’s like, “I hear you like guns on top of your guns.” – Such a busy, ugly mess… Bombs, missiles, cannons, SLAM and the primary weapon turret.
TIE Interdictor / Punisher: Urgh. Ugly, boring, LAZILY designed ship model from Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds. Again, there’s far more better designs out there, like the Scimitar Assault Bomber, which wouldn’t even need different rules really either.
Of course, what the classic TIE Fighter fans really want, is the Assault Gunboat, or the Missile Boat if you want to be silly.
I love the Imperial Raider. One of the things you didn’t notice though, was that all the Raiders guns are facing forward, as opposed to the Corvette’s broadsides. Generally speaking, playwise, I think the Corvette’s going to be killier against the Raider, whereas the Raider is going to make a far bigger mess of fighters than the Corvette, which can often struggle with them and is better off going after ships with less dodge dice.
One thing you might want to check out though, is instead of putting down the 6 asteroids / debris fields on the standard 3′ by 3′ board, you could each take the Transport and the Corvette and use THEM as the obstacles. – The rules pamphlet for them talks about that.
200 or 300 point games of X-Wing are recommended to be played on a 6′ by 3’ long board.
There’s been on-set photographs of The Joker without the tattoos. – So there’s been some thinking that maybe the whole tattoo thing has just been a promotional image gone awry. – Or alternatively, gone right in a blatant attempt to get people talking about the film. I’ve seen some jokes comparing him to “Home Alone” though. I think I would have liked Will Smith’s Deadshot with the Arrow’s Deadshot’s eyepatch / sight headband.
Actually, I do really like Flash’s/Arrow’s versions of Boomerang, Deadshot and now Katana too.
Funnily enough, I’ve just bought the League of Shadows set, but I’ve got Nyssa Al Ghul as well, so that ‘should’ give me some shooting. – I think there’s some points needing tweaked though as it’s about 12 points over…
Enjoyed the show as always, and I loved the X-Wing update. Scum is my faction, I just added the IG-88D and the Firespray to my collection. I started to play local tournaments and started going with the swarm tactic. However when you are in a timed battle and against larger ships I kept losing because one of my Z95’s would be taken out. So I am switching up my tactics and going for larger ships to see what happens. Looking forward to expanding with new ships!
Looking forward to XLBS!
You have to try Firestorm armada, that game is just awesome!
Great show guys. I like the new wave X-Wing models.
THANK YOU JUSTIN! Just before you said it I was screaming: THERE IS NO REPUBLIC (at that time). It’s rebels. Dirty little rebel scum 😀 Alliance at most!
Republic is a completely valid term for the X-Wing game as it currently stands. In fact, it’s more correct in many ways…
The Rebel E-Wing’s and K-Wing’s, for example are from the Star Wards ‘Expanded Universe’ (Now termed ‘legacy,’ due to the new film) stories and are very much *New* Republic ships, never having been used by the Rebel Alliance.
I hope Lloyd can survive this news: http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2015/05/bombshell-dust-and-battlefront-part-ways.html
Just a heads up – the Superior Spider-Man arc (where Doc Ock mindswaps with Peter Parker) is really good IMHO. A lot of people didn’t like it, but i thought it was one of the better storylines of the last few years. Doc Ock makes a surprisingly effective (albeit brutal!) Spidey.
Well, my experience with the big ships where quite bad so far. They are to expensive for the bit of boost they offer to your force (Points and Pounds). I played a few games with them and it seems the only good use for them is to run over enemy fighters. Of course this is not so much fun for your opponent, and to be honest it wasn´t for me either. So we placed them back in the shelfs and now they collect dust.
In my opinion the games System doesn´t work for the big ship. That´s why they came up with Armada. I don´t think they sell to good.
Maybe other People have made diffenrent experiences and I missed the big idea behind it.
The Joker actually looks like Marylin Manson
The idea for the Joker came from the 1928 Silent film The man who laughs by Paul Leni
