Games Workshop dropped a little update for this weekend for those seeking to get stuck into the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. The big news is that the Battle Of Osgiliath set will be available on general release for those that didn't pre-order the game a couple of months ago.

Inside this set, you get your hands on a collection of the older plastic sprues representing the Warriors and Rangers of Minas Tirith alongside the Morannon Orcs that are seeking to destroy the world of men. A big Mordor Troll also gets added into the mix with a variety of weapon options.

The new miniatures in the set include Faramir, Madril and Damrod plus Gothmog who comes on foot and on the back of a fearsome Warg. You also have a bunch of sprues representing the ruined city of Osgiliath that can be assembled in a variety of different ways.

This set also comes with the updated (this is not a new edition) Rulebook, dice, measuring device and tokens. The neatest addition to the bits and bobs though is the Battle Of Osgiliath book which comes with a set of learning scenarios that will walk you through how to play the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game. You'll go through the basics of gameplay and then dive into special rules, weapon types, monsters and more.

Rulebook, Dice & More

In addition to the Battle Of Osgiliath set, there are also a few additional releases. You can get your hands on the separate and updated Rules Manual so if you're an old hand at the game, you don't need to get the big box.

For those who want to show their love for a particular faction, there are also themed dice coming out representing both the Good and Evil forces in those recently released Battlehost sets. You can get your hands on Rohan and Minas Tirith Dice...

Or you could be super evil and go with the forces of Isengard and Mordor. Each set comes with eight dice where the faction symbol takes the place of the six. You'll always feel happy when that fancy symbol pops up during your games!

I really like the look of these dice and it's almost a bit of a shame that there are only eight of them in each set. I sense a few folks (me included) picking up one or two of each just to have a few more dice for use during gameplay. It is worth weighing that up against the fact that you rarely roll big handfuls of dice in Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game so eight might actually be just what you need.

Finally, and rather randomly, there is also the Ringbearers set coming up for pre-order from the folks at Forge World. Not that I'm complaining of course!

The set comes with five miniatures in clear resin. You get Frodo and then both a young and old version of Bilbo. This means that when they slip The Ring on, you can represent it on the battlefield in a nifty fashion. You also get Gollum, sneaking about before he lost his precious to Bilbo and Isildur. Maybe you can use his for his ill-fated encounter with marauding Orcs at the Gladden Fields.

I am hoping that the Middle-earth Strategy Battle Game team will deliver us some fun news about what's happening with the game in the near future come 2023. Fingers are crossed for more supplements, new plastic and resin miniatures and maybe a few fun side projects too.

Could you be tempted by these new Middle-earth releases?
