Still not used to this appearing Friday night.
Thankfully it’s still here on a Saturday morning 😉
Now that GW blew up Cadia does this mean that the Cadian Imperial Guard (the “default” imperial guardsmen for over 20 years now) are no longer the poster boys of the guard?
Time seems ripe for GW to redo the guard with a new “default” imperial guard regt, I wonder what this could be?
They could (should) go back to the original default, Necromundans in jump suits, with some bomb collars to make penal legion.
Ahh I had 40 of those penal troops (they didn’t even have the upgrade to get a knife), and it’s still the worst decision for the right reasons that I made to sell them.
And I had about 120 of the original plastic Imperial Guard. I remember painting up the Officers in Austrian Napoleonic Dragoon colours and even used Austrian Napoleonic flags for the standard bearers (they really did fit in). They had a quasi Napoleonic feel to them back then (just look at the original box art). Then I had 40 Rough Riders….why oh why did I sell all that stuff, that was when the Imperial Guard had character 🙁
As I look at the intro, could I ask what you used for the lighting strips in the gaming room (they look like LED ones). I’m “trying” to come up with a way to light a 6′ by 4′ table with a dismountable overhead light (and failing), but a good (and cheaper) LED lighting strip would be a start 🙂
EDIT and can we hear of Ben’s review of his new intro segment 😀
I am…impressed?
I’ve heard rumours that for substantial sums of money or their own combined bodyweight in ANZAC biscuits and lovehearts they will remove it
FRIDAY! FRIDAY! FRIDAY!!! Ain’t got no job but got plenty of models to paint!!!
I got one of those Giant Books of Battle Maps for my friend’s kids for Christmas.. and now I definitely want them for myself!!! lol!
I forgot this was on on Fridays now
It’s the early-bird special “Weekender”!
(can’t believe I didn’t remember that this is launching early, {for here in Kansas any way}
Loving the “World War III — Battlefront” coverage.
I’m feeling spoiled with another free STL file. Thanks team OTT. ??
Want to see how it turns out for folk
hay guys the royal navy has plastic ships.
One thing not mentioned with Firelock Games and the Blood & Plunder stuff is that they are ALSO currently doing 3 different “firestarters” for new metal sculpts for North American Indians, Canadian Militia, and trained Indian soldiers with guns. So if you are looking for some of those models BEFORE the kickstarter gets going, check them out on the firelock page.
We have mentioned this in the news and on the show before so no worries
Well – that’s my Saturday morning freed up 😉
love the game map book.
I really hope fro some big new releases for 40k factions. It’s about time. Trying to get my hands on a Big Book of Sci-Fi Battlemats, but they’re sold out all the time.
I think we’ll get some big new Orks soon
the delve game could you use the dungeon map book for that?
No as you need to draw out your dungeons in Delve
Shame.
Loving the Friday night posting of the Weekender. Gives me a chance to watch it with two little ones running around.
Blood & Plunder plastics? Looks a little like the Guild Ball route but it will be easier to cart so many more figures about. This thing you say about ships intrigues me… tell me more.
Engage!
weekender time…..little to early…but better than nothing….cool terrain
“Nobody likes spikey bits”.
When he’s right he’s right ?
A very fine surprise in a hotel room far from home…great topics, very useful. The news from Team Yankee, Modiphius and Privateer Press is very interesting. A great show, really, even if the intro to the game mat segment is still mildly disturbing. I find the 3D printing amazing, but I am so far behind the curve I am still waiting for a “Gerry Can Show You the Best Airbushes and Compressors” segment! Thanks for a great show.
I think John has already been working on those. At least of use and maintenance.
I’d trust him over me as far as the airbrush knowledge go.I’m still at the point and swear method of usage
Lovely Maps – always useful to have as a Games Master 🙂 PS gave up watching your show on YouTube as it was stopping every 10 mins for ads!!
Have to get on those map books.
Happy Weekend y’all! That dungeon kit is sick!!!!!! Would love that. Contrast paint that bad boy and it’s on!
Yeah contrasts would be great for terrain!
I hadn’t even considered contrast paints…finally I may have a reason to try them
Richard couldn’t get to Jerusalem because of spiders?.Hmmmmm
Love Adrians Walls as I need a longship for my Ragnarok warband.
I backed WoFun heavily on their KS and I am happy to see they are expanding their options…really looking forward to seeing where they go this year
Man, that Spikey Bits joke was spot on! XD
Guys, I’m going to watch the show today but have noticed there’s another free 3d print file up for grabs, which is great, but not all of us own 3d printers
Is there any way that OTT can offer to print these for us and sell them to us, for a small profit, thereby helping to supplement the site income for you all, and we get the model
Perhaps it can be agreed with each company as they give you a free file, even if you are only allowed to take a set amount of orders or for a set period of time, say 1-2 months
Just an idea
There are people in discussion with Titan Forge who print and produce minis from their files. Titan Forge themselves sell their minis as phyisical objects too.
1p base for the grunts, 2p for the glorious leader. No expense spared!
Cheaper than mdf bases.
No expense spent ?
I’m using 1p and 2p for a lot of things now. Basing a squad for 20p cannot be beat.
The new intro reminds me of some dodgy sit com. Need some canned laughter now!
Just sitting down with my morning coffee for the weekender.
don’t give them ideas
I love the Blood & Plunder metals, fantastic sculpts and nothing to build, perfect minies for me. But in order to attract the big masses, plastic is a must. That Kickstarter and then the whole game has potential to really blow up.
I love Loki battlemats and have a couple but this book of dungeons is wow
I’ve been looking for dungeon sets for a campaign of Song of Blades and Heroes, looks like you’ve found the ideal solution! I’ve been trying to resist buying Terrain Crates, though I can feel my willpower dropping…
they are lovely, I have most of the crates and they’re well worth the money for me for skirmish and tabletop games, I don’t use minis in RPGs
Still waiting for my order of clear filament to try the Necrossia Pillar Tomb :). T can try the Barbarian on my FDM printer frist. Thanks guys
Having issue unzipping the Barbarian stl. i have tried the RAR file and the ZIP and get error unpacking them. Anyone else having issue with these file?
yeah trying to extract but it keeps saying the folder is empty
@warzan – any help here for folks?
Morning (although if I was on the ball i’d have watched it last night)
I saw it appear last night and thought “nah”. Sometimes I just need to sleep.
Happy weekender! Ironsworn seems like a nice co-op or solo rpg, will check it out. Warcaster looks ace, I would like to know more!
Ironsworn is a lot of fun. I had a hard time understanding it at first but after watching it played it made more sense
Wooo Weekender time.
The results from the resin printers are looking really good. Wish i had one. Might have to treat myself someday.
Do it! For the price of a couple of hefty resin models from GW, you could have one on your desk.
And once you get your head around leaving the GW eco-sphere (some people really struggle with that) a whole world of opportunity opens up – just have a look on GumRoad, myMiniFactory, yeggi/Thingiverse and, of course, Patreon, to see some of the amazing sculpts – many of which are from contractors who used to create models for ForgeWorld/GW anyway!
That’s a very nice 3D model
Thanks for the show, see you all tomorrow.
great show guys, glad my weekender is back.
I’d like the box of terrain but could you swap the Book Of Maps for the Labyrinth on Gerry showed? And have Sam sign it? 😉
I like the look of the wofun minis, they are robust enough to be a great entry point for younger children and can be flat packed away afterwards. I tried the paperboys as a present for my nephew and while a success were finicky. I think this is a clever pairing with added durability coupled with the beautiful art of Peter Dennis. Another Great show look forward to tomorrow’s show.
@avernos is very welcome on dungeons and designs
I think I have missed some episodes. Why did you changed the setting? The older one it was great.
Anyway happy weekend.
Changing things up to make it more fun for us 🙂 A change can be great for the soul!
Interesting to see you guys printing; I take a very different approach – would be nice to compare results. There’s a video on Youtube about “why chitubox autosupports suck” which explains my reasoning far better and more succinctly than I could here. I try to print minis as vertical as possible (so each layer is building on top of the one below, supported by the bulk of the mini, not numerous supports). But angling is important – so I lean the mini back, but by just 10 or 15 degrees.
Also Chitubox is (or at least, was) terrible at auto-supporting (I’ve heard it’s much improved even just in the last few months). Prusa slicer gives far better results with fewer islands that need to be fixed in the Photon File Validator software. With Prusa supports, you can wash in IPA then soak in warm water – the entire support scaffold just melts away with hardly any pock marks (I fill with 70%-80% supports with 45 degree).
I love Titan Forge minis (I’ve spent a fortune on Patreon in the last few months but they are consistently amazing). I even added some unnecessary tech into this month’s Dwarf Forge terrain for their “win a printer” competition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OaLHudi3Zv0
Thanks for the free barbarian model, btw. Beautiful!
First to answer your quest as to what ruleset to play out – Crusaders vs Spiders!!!! I propose that you modify Rangers of Shadowdeep – and have a good cooperative play, with appropriate, or perhaps less than appropriate events set up for your cards, and a proper go at fighting poison/disease, the spiders and anything unforeseen such as attackers from Saracens or the terrain itself against the crusaders.
Secondly, if you have not read it, and interested in getting a good understanding of Richard the Lionhearted, I recommend the book 1215 and all that. A real fun read about the Magna Carta, but covering much more about the horrors, or joy for some, of that time period and esp the personalities and driver of Richard, John and more.
Plastics would get me interested in Blood and Plunder. The cost of all metal armies put me off before
Good to see Adrian’s walls getting a shout this weekend.
Yay! The weekend!
You guys are really challenging me with these lovely prints you are doing.
I still find myself worried about my abilities to use the technology and software but I am really beginning to run out of reasons not to get a printer.
Could I ask something of the OTT team please. It may be you have already done this but could you open a project containing the prints you do and a brief comment for each with a basic guide? @warzan I know you have a lot to do but I for one would gain a lot of confidence from having it as a reference.
I would look at the generic skirmish rules Song of Blades and Heroes. You could totally do the crusaders vs Tarantula.
Plastic blood and plunder? Interesting!
I’m super excited about the new Privateer Press game, although I do think the models have a very Infinity inspired look.
For those that are interested, they will be showing off gameplay on their Twitch channel (https://www.twitch.tv/privateerpress/) on Feb 25th at 10am PST where a couple of staff members will be playing a match. They also did a broadcast last week covering some initial information about the game, https://www.twitch.tv/videos/554543351
good show guys love the giveaway this week could really do with this one 😉
Gor(e) the Barbarian? Is that his name or just a suggestion? ?
“If you like your Cold War gone Hot” – what if people prefer their Cold Wars lukewarm? ?
Surely ‘Adrian’s Wall is just how they pronounce Hadrian’s Wall up by the actual wall? ?
Taking the Crusade game on tour – how about visiting various clubs across the UK and Ireland? Know I’d be interested if you visited my local club one week. 😉
Crusaders vs Spiders rules: how about Saga? Use the Crusader lists for the Crusaders obviously and one of the Age of Magic lists for the spiders.
There are still Cadians out there Warren – the Cadian regiments were stationed all throughout the galaxy so there are still millions of them out there. Plus not all Cadian minis are Cadians; canon is that countless worlds throughout the Imperium use the same style armour and weapons as the Cadians.
The name you’re looking for Ben is Gazkull Margaret Thatcher.
?
Giveaway this week looks great. The maps are really nice and versatile, and Terrain Crate always looks good.
If it makes you feel better about recognising Dark Crystal from just ‘Gelfling’ Gerry, I recognised it too despite never having seen the film. ?
Is it just me, or does the dwarf controlling the blacksmith mech bare an uncanny resemblance to Big Ben from 4Ground? ? ?
You’re probably thinking of Critical Role with the name ‘Grog the Barbarian’ Warren.
On the topic of scaffolding on 3D printing – if you were printing scaffolding terrain would you need scaffolding for it? ??
Speaking of scaffolding – if you’re printing a building, mech, etc to use as terrain it would be interesting to see if you could work the print scaffolding into being scaffolding, gantries, etc as part of the piece.
My girlfriend just started DMing for her friends at university. The Dungeon Delving Book and Terrain Crate would be prefect for her because of the limited space in the dorms.
Why not use the spider rules from GWs Middle Earth game
Yes, winning Terrain and a book of dungeon Maos Sounds awesome
Wondering if the blood and plunder plastics would be compatible with ghost archipelago crewmen box for more veraity
Well bit the bullet and bought a printer. Fun times ahead.
Awesome episode. Like many others, forgot that this was on Fridays now. Good stuff.
Very cool. I know @dignity is a huge Commissar Cain fan so Valhallan’s are very cool to see.
Loving the Dungeon Battle Mats books, why has no-one done this before? No more faffing about folding sh*t up, or big bulky boards, brilliant. Might have to dig out the old “Heroquest” and create a few new scenarios for these. Must have.
good episode. still haven’t made up my mind on the new time and format.
would like to see some more let’s play games.
No free stl for me, as I already have him. I’m very impressed with Titan-Forge and the others that I have subscriptions for. I’ve enjoyed the show, lots of interesting stuff to investigate when I’ve got the time. I liked the mat for walking dead and it looked good with the buildings on it, I would need a bigger one – the camera was fine for me this week maybe I just had a bad day last week 😀
I never really liked the term ‘grognard’. I prefer ‘chronoisseur’. ?
Loving the Friday night posting of the Weekender.
Love mantic terrain pieces. Beautiful utility models that it’s never a bad thing to own.
Am loving the free 3d printer files, havent got one yet, but its something i really wanna do, currently im slowly building up a folder of free 3d printer files.
The detailed discussion of scaffolding was really informative and it reinforces that currently 3d printing is not something I want to explore. I find my hobby tasks such as painting and playing are so time pressured at the minute I just don’t have the time.
Another great show, and another awesome prize. My gaming group would love it.
Another Great Weekender and looking forward to seeing the new Firelock Games kickstarter.
First up I have I really like the new intro to the show, it’s very nicely done.
Regarding Blood and Plunder, going plastic is great news but what’s better is the prospect of a two player starter set. I’ve always fancied trying this game at the club, but putting together enough for two factions so I could demo the game to generate interest is currently a bit prohibitive cost wise. With a two start set and ships in plastic would make that much more doable.
Love the new look of the show. I cant believe how good that 3d barbarian looks
Hi guys, would love that RPG map book! just getting the kids into d&d and its going great! 🙂
Love the spider story (and those old Warhammer Quest spiders!), and glad to see the Middle East not being portrayed as all desert either. The area from Acre to Jerusalem is not desert. (One of the many things that annoyed me about Kingdom of Heaven was it being filmed in a country / in terrain that looked nothing like the place it was supposed to be.)
Great show gentlemen
Happpy weekend!
Thanks again for another great mat @warzan 🙂 !
See you guys on XLBS
I have to say that I’m kinda enjoying the new Friday release of the Weekender. I get to watch it when I get home from work and start my weekend before the wife gets home. Then we can spend time together that evening without any competition for time.
Then Saturday is completely free for whatever the weekend may call for. That flexibility in my schedule allows me to ask for the time needed to watch XLBS with a great deal less friction.
I’ll admit it did take me a bit to adjust to the change, but I’m definitely liking it now. 🙂
I’ve been wading through back content trying to relight my excitement for Reichbusters. Adding the timestamps to these videos is an amazing idea. I wish you’d been doing it all along. Finding stuff buried in an old weekender can be really hard to impossible, especially when it might just be a 30 second mention and I don’t know what I’m looking for.
A fun to watch you guys, as ever. 🙂
COG,s for the win…..I am running an old school Temple of elemental adventure for our group and those dungeon tiles would be perfect
Map books look great, must have!
Those map books are the cat’s pajamas, may have to buy those anyway if I don’t win. The Terrain crate is like peanut butter and jelly with maps. Brilliant!
