Ultramarines…we need more love for the Rainbow Warriors!
It would be fun to see an updated take on the Rainbow Warriors 🙂
Rainbow Warriors would seem very apt given the thanks we need to pay to the first line defenders trying to keep us alive during this pandemic.
Great episode.
Isnt a weekend without the Weekender!
Happy weekend all.
9th edition has all of my scattered 40k friends chattering. Everything looks sooo good.
That’s a neat thing to hear – it’s always good when a new edition sparks some folks to get back/into a game.
8th had that effect with our group….but then it bloated out and needed a billion extra books and faqs. (slight exaggeration) and it became a hassle for those in the group who were once a month 40k players to keep up to date with the two guys who played weekly with other groups/clubs. Suddenly becomes less fun when from one game to the next your guys go from master chief on the battlefield to red shirts on an enterprise away team.
5th, 6th, and 7th were the same in my experience.. lots of happy chatter when they were coming, lots of people discussing the new stuff and the changes (with some degree of the inevitable “they changed it so it’s ruined” from the people who wound up outside the new meta)
then the expansions came, the balance of power shifted constantly, and people got tired.
And the new edition will be no different. That is how they can make more money by constant changes and new troops and new codex’s and fixes for fixes etc. They have a formula. A formula that works and a user base that keeps trying the next new thing. That is why it is often referred to as a “lifestyle” game. IMHO, complaining is probably part of the fun of 40K because it is the complaints that seem to dominate the discussions. I have not played in years and sold off the last of what I had about 2yrs ago but if that is what makes people happy, so be it. I am happy to sit back and play Frostgrave or some other non-40K related skirmish game.
Happy Weekender, hope someone walks away with some Necron goodness!
I hope the starter box has something other than boring old marines. Necrons I think are a given, but even battle sisters would be better than more bland marines.
Well the starter sets are designed as an entry point for new players and Marines make the most sense for beginners. They’re the easiest to paint and the squads and weaponry they have are all very obvious in what they do. They’re good all-rounders as an army so very easy to play as well.
They just look so bland.
Games Workshops do make their alternative and limited run Starters which don’t feature Space Marines as well which is usually a good port of call. I agree that Space Marines are everyhwere, but they are a good place to start.
Free minis? Cool…. MAKE ‘EM PINK MARINES!
I was just asking my brother if we would split the new starters for ninth edition.
Hope I win one of those startersets . If it is Necrons it is for me but if it is Primaris it will be his.his
Just trying to get as much Imperial Guard done as possible so I can start a Necron army for ninth edition.
There’s nothing wrong with your troops being able to move towards stealthy troops. They’re not completely invisible: call it soldier’s intuition, something out of the corner of the eye, get closer and check it out. Proper Predator stuff.
Yeah I get that – but it still doesn’t quite work heh. I want blips!
It was blips that made Space Hulk for sure.
Enjoying watching on youtube on my phone while updating my Arceworld project on the pc 😀 Commenting here for the chance to win a prize. A marine starter would be lovely as I’m planning on doing the Rogue Trader Battle of the Farm scenario but using the most modern 40k miniatures
North v South was a great game
You can actually get it on steam, It’s called The Bluecoats: North vs South
Thanks for the show guys, good fun!
Like the new necrons and for 40K 9th edition, i guess we’ll have to wait and see… maybe we’ll finally get a more balanced game!
Do you think balance is even possible in a game like 40k?
I play casually so it’s never been an issue for me but it’s a regular complaint online. 40k has 22 forces with Codexes. Those are filled with sublists for Chapters, Hive Fleets, Klans, Craft worlds etc. Then you can mix and match to create soup lists. Add in all the extras we get in campaign books, White Dwarf and supplements.
That’s an obscene number of possible army lists, most with dozens of options. How many thousands of games would you have to play test to really claim it’s all balanced?
I’m not suggesting they shouldn’t bother but I think whatever combination they come up with will always have stuff that rises to the top and stuff that sinks to the bottom.
And considering GW emphasise Narrative play over Matched Play then it’s hard to see them going to that length.
Perfect balance? No, but, they should try a bit better! But i get your point. Anyways, it all depends against who you play also but, i do prefer casual play because of that
I suspect a lot of the ‘balance’ issues is the result of the designers desperately trying to add a gimmick to all of the troops and factions. through special rules.
And they do it in such a way that it is hard to see if anything is too powerful (or too weak).
Examples are the variations of ‘orbital drop’ and the various invulnerability saves that all have their faction specific names.
Then there’s the faction-specific things that weren’t designed to be part of the core game (like ambush tactics employed by the Genecults), which probably required the rewritten cover/concealment rules that we’re getting in 9th.
ie : a lot of stuff could have been prevented if GW at least tried to think ahead of the codexes, instead of letting new minis decide the evolution of the system after the core is released.
Infinity is probably the one system that feels like it has been designed with this sort of balance in mind.
Just found you guys and I really enjoyed the show. Thanks
Great to hear!
Happy weekender All. I’m pretty sure you can get North and South on your phone. Looking forward to trying Kemet, I’ve never played it but a mate of mine has the old copy and has been looking towards getting the update pack so very much looking forward to having ago once normality resumes to a level I can join my mates around the gaming table.
My friend has the original (or slightly updated) Kemet and we have really enjoyed playing it. I like what they did with Blood & Sand but don’t see us upgrading anytime soon. The original game still works nicely.
That’s great to hear thanks ?
For european customers all the AB figures are available here
https://www.eurekaminuk.com/
Or in N.America
https://eurekaminusa.com/
Great stuff – thanks for the links.
yay the weekender.
battleisle @warzan
Did @warzan pick out the microphone for @dignity personally ?
I want to like 40K, it has been a long time but the world used to have a wonderful narrative. The early refreshes left a horrible and lasting impression on me. Even though, in my opinion there are many far superior games available it means little how good they are as it is too hard to get a game due to player base. So I will give 40K another look with 9th.
20mm is the best
the female pilot could be one of capt scarlets angles.
a rather acute one 😉
Please tell me it’s the Weekend?
Hang on… if there’s a Weekender that means…
The Judicar miniature looks awesome. Looking forward to 9th addition.
The Judicar is badass. He is making me want to make a Black Templar army haha
Sorry, meant 9th Edition…..
Looking forward to see the impact of Necrons. They have been quiet too long.
It’s the Weekender!
Sounds like a great prize this week. (in a whispered voice, “Can those of us outside of the service area of OTT actually win a prize this week since your not allowed to sell us GW stuff on a standard basis?”) Just curious.
The AB Figures site will probably keep my attention for a good part of the weekend!
@warzan @lloyd you guys must be long lost brothers indeed. I rocked the Amiga 500 for several years and then upgraded to the 1000. Those computers have never left my mind. I do have a guy that contacts me from time to time and asked if I’m interested in some Amigas he has located. I’ve almost caved several times.
I’m going to have to snag some of those ‘World War I Camel Corps’ miniatures. They’d make for some interesting play in ‘Blood and Valor’.
I know some folks have recently crapped on some of the new ‘Adeptus Mechanicus’ offerings that will be headed our way soon, but I’m thinking that that is where I’m going to focus some or most of my 40k efforts this version round.
Yep prizes ship worldwide 🙂 so no issue there!
I’m gonna have to have a look at this Amiga on Raspberry Pi thing the guys are telling me about on the discord 🙂
https://opensource.com/article/19/3/amiga-raspberry-pi
https://hothardware.com/reviews/amiga-emulator-with-raspberry-pi-3
https://gunkrist79.wixsite.com/amibian
it’s all pretty ‘easy’ … trickiest bit will be sourcing the games to play, because that might require raising the black flag and doing your best pirate imitation *arrh!*
@dignity .Priest was not a bad movie,shame on you,shame.
Thank goodness it’s the Weekender!
Ugh. I think this is going to get me to finally play 40k. The kids didn’t need college anyway.
As much as I love my 3D printers… FFS Warren, the others are losing the will to live! 8)
I’m an evangelist for the future lol 😉
Really quite tempted by the new edition of 40k .. but then I’ve been thinking that since battle of macragge!
could this video be a peak at spacemarine 2?
Alas no. I doubt we’ll see the sequel to that game…which is a real shame.
Finally going to start 40k. I usually only play historical’s but not a lot of people in my area play. There is always 40k games going on though and new edition is a good time to start. looks fun
Good lord Justin’s screen looks like he’s being filmed from the bellybutton of an excited cyber-man! Most off putting….it’s so hard and shiny!…wonder what those buttons do?
Damn! First comment of 2020? Must be working too hard.
Another, winner winner chicken dinner of a show guys.
I’m in for the Kemet upgrade, looks good. Let’s hope GW leave 40k alone for a few years after this new iteration, instead of changing again to do more money grabbing.
The weekend is here, let’s get some game on
kemet where the Mummy meets stargate?
lovein it.
Another terrific show gentlemen. Thanks and stay safe.
I think Warren should have a war camel!!
Very nice
I’ve said it elsewhere but I really am looking forward to the new edition of 40k. 8th took a while to win me over (How can you play without blast templates?!?!) but once I got into it I could appreciate just how smoothly the games played. Sacrificing some realism and surplus rules was worth it for much less contention.
Going over some of the points you guys raised, I must be one of the only players happy with them not switching to alternating actions, but we do already have a limited version of it in the close combat. In 8th edition, units that charged that turn fight first but after that it alternates between players choosing to activate squads in existing combats. I think that works fine as you rarely have too many ongoing scraps but has anyone played games as large as 40k using alternate activations? I recently played a 4,000pt battle over an 8’x4′ table and keeping track of that many units and which ones had gone feels like it would really slow things down.
On the Crusades system, I would imagine it will be close to how they do it in Kill Team. As your guys unlock abilities their point cost increases. So even if you have a rookie force fighting veterans, it’s still a level playing field. It’s the new feature I’m most looking forward to as I’m always in favour of anything that rewards linking games and adding narrative. GW have previously said that they prefer narrative gaming, if the reaction to AoS originally dropping points hadn’t been so negative I honestly think they’d be gone from 40k too. All of the 8th edition Codex entries for units only show power level, the points costs are all tagged on in a list at the back of the book almost as an afterthought.
Moving onto the Command Points, I think the biggest change is you now use your CP to build your army instead of your army to build your CP. So you won’t see “soup” army builds (like the ‘Loyal 32’) chucked together because people have figured out it’s the most cost effective way of maxing your CP. Now it sounds like you have to spend them to get extra detachments in, so you’re doing it for narrative or proper tactical reasons as opposed to just using those units as glorified stat buffs.
My new hobby consists entirely of rewatching the new 40K trailer over and over. It’s. So. GOOOOOOD!!!
I’ve been looking forward to the show! I’m relaxing with a drink in hand.
The weekend is now!
The head of the new Necrons still remind me of Albert Steptoe
@lloyd you should check out http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com
They have reviews on a huge range of 1/72 scale figure kits and manufactures for not only WWII but every other period in history.
I’ll have to back those massive gelatinous cubes!
I know it’s going to be an unpopular opinion, but I think 40k should be more like Kill Team. This whole I move everything and then shoot you..and then whatever else before you do anything is a dinosaur. It’s time it goes extinct.
I really like the look of the necrons, but some of the Space Marines are a little over done, with these shields.
The perfect breakfast entertainment for a Saturday morning. Cheers guys!
I’m trying to remember how long ago it was on weekenders when you were discussing how long it would be until 3D printing properly rivalled traditional delivery methods. Seems like we’ve gotten there quicker than predicted?
The Emerald flame…..(clears throat……adopts devil horn hand position….) ……”CODEBUSTERS” in a box set.
9 hrs play time?…the COGs will finish it in 5 minutes flat.
Great show. Did you see the new one to the left behind the monolith?
Thank you Jerry, at 1.03.45, for giving an historical gamer’s perspective of the reality even in a SciFi game setting!
The caveat being: what can possibly happen? And, is it feasible? And, then, how probable is it?
I will wait to see what ‘alphabetty soup’ GW come up with in WH40K 9th/8.5 edition!!! As already alluded to in this serving, it is bound to be product quantity selling driven, (they are a business foremost and profit driven, not just a hobby enthusiast support company).
Still holding out for my Man o’ War relaunch (when GW want the big bucks 😉
You can have that after they’ve re released The Warlock of firetop mountain board game
Cheers for another great episode guys, good to let the crazy one out of the pick’n’pack room for the day! ???
One of my friends is taking the opportunity of 9th edition to get started with 40k! Awesome times ahead!
Good to see that Justin is still alive and not decomposing under a pile of boxes in the studio. Is it me or is Warren getting more and more manic as the weeks of isolation march on….
I think when they say narrative campaign they just mean slow grow league rules where you can unlock/upgrade models over time. No narrative invloved. As for campaigg creep, which is something I am always very wary of with these things, it might be self balancing, assuming models points costs are balanced and you play points based games. That way unlocking a more powerful model doesn’t give you an advanatge. You’re still only allowed to bring X000 points to the table. Plus if you can upgrade your captain to a dreadnought from being battered too much then there are means to get upgrades even if you lose often. They might actually have thought this through. I doubt it will truely be story based and I doubt there will be future releases for this. It’ll be a couple of pages in the core rules only, although I’d love to see GW embrase the PDF Organised Play Document format other companies use and have one for this.
As for being able to have fun playing at any points level, every game says this and its usually rubbish. Theres always a window where its best. Technically you can play with a tiny force, but it never gives you the feel or lets you take the stuff you actually want. I’ll believe this when I see it.
They say the old Codecies will be viable, but they also say they will need to change some of the stats and points costs immediately so just how viable are they? We know they are going to replace them eventually anyway. If all the stats and rules etc for the models stay the same then I’ve never understood how they can say its a new edition to the game. Its at most a heavy errata to the same edition.
I for one would love to see them do a full new edition where they are willing to murder all their ageing darlings. Go back to first principles and be willing to change everything while focusing on what they want the core of the game to be. Do we really need to stick with D6? Does the turn sequence and different phases really work and do what we want the way we want it? Does a “full size” game really have to take half a day to play? There has to be a better way to list stats etc than having weapons in one chapter, models in another and the points for each scattered over multiple pages of a third chapter. I like 40K as a property and I want to like the game, but as a game its got a lot of problems as far as I’m concerned. My friends and I are talking about starting this new slow grow campaign thing once it lands and I’m likely to whip out my Space Wolves (I’d love the marines start collecting please to add to that) and hopefully I’ll enjoy it.
I’d also love to see them embrace the Start Collecting thing at a rules/game design level. Right now they appear to be model collections aimed more for hobbyists rather than giving new players an equal footing in the game. I’d love for them to be about as balanced as other games starter sets, AND for the new app to give free access to list building using one list from each of the starter sets. It would give new players an easier in to the game without having to throw all their money at lots of rule books and codices before they even get their first game in.
If anyone has any links to suitable 3D printable files for Space Wolves style troops I’d love to see some links. Also, what is the standard policy on bringing non-GW models to 40K/AoS events, wether run by or outside of GW?
Oh, and as for Gelatenous Cubes models: Have you tried buying some Jelly Cubes? Kill the enemy and eat the cube. Love it.
they’ve been tweaking and updating stats in the ‘chapter approved’ and various campaign supplements (Vigilus and the Pscychic Awakening books).
As such the codexes are already out-of-date.
I’m glad I’m not a spacemarine player, because they’ve had 2 codexes (the 2nd added the Vanguard spacemarines from Vigilus) and a few chapter specific ones.
I also doubt the ‘crusades’ system will be anything more than the ‘path to glory’ system that AoS has.
I do hope that the fact that they mention it does mean it gets a bit more attention post release.
And yes … those start collecting boxes are more like ‘here is a bunch of old stuff we like to sell at a discount’ and less like ‘this makes for a cool army’ that the startersets for both Infinity (Corvus Belli) and Flames of War / Team Yankee sets (Battlefront) have.
There was much gnashing of teeth when they did 8th edition. And I suspect they only dared to be that radical after using AoS as a sort of beta-test.
If they ever were to make as radical changes as you suggest then they’d do it in a similar style.
It would also mean they’d go from ‘model first’ to ‘rules first’ as a design principle.
Morning All, on this fine (to fine if you ask me mutter, mutter) sunny day
you took me way back when you where on about the Amiga, I’ve still got all those games you mentioned, i’ve also got Tabletop rules for “Worms”, and loads of metal mini’s of the actual gameplay worms. Rambo worm, Freddie Kruger worm ,mummy worm, vampire worm, even Roman Worms… 🙂
I’m cautisously optomistic about 9th. Could be a real step towards a better game. 8th was kind of the dawning of the new, more involved, GW. Will be really intriguedto see if it has the player draw as 8th did.
9th edition has gotten me interested in 40K again, though I’m only interested in? playing the smaller sized games. I like the idea of build 500pt armies for different factions that I’m interested in rather than build one massive army. Currently I’m building an Elder force, once that’s done I’m thinking of putting together a Tau force.
its finally friday ! ( or saturday)
AB Figures are amazing, everyone should go buy some. This reminds me, I really need to go and dig out my Napoleonic Russians collection and document it in the project system.
Necrons look cool.
Dead excited for 9th edition. Looking forward to new necrons and the assault primaris, bladeguard veterans look pretty cool as well. Only annoyance for me is that there will be another new Marine codex…. is the current one even a year old yet?
Thanks for the show. See you all on Sunday.
Could 9th edition pull me in… I am starting to like the art direction of the models again…
Really hoping some of the new Necron range can be used in Killteam but I doubt it. Maybe if the small scale 9th works well then I will give it a shot.
Turning early computer games into table-top:
“Lords of Midnight” for the Spectrum. That’s my vote! (showing age)
Definitely want some more undead robots to expand my Dynasty.
Great weekender show as always and interesting times for 40k ?
I’m liking the look of some of the new Necron stuff, looks fantastic.
And for gelatinous cubes, make your own with green jelly. And once you’ve finished playing, you have a lovely snack
Oooh Necrons, love me y some Xenos good to see a change of the Big Bad in 40k.
I have a sneaking suspician that one of the Chaos gods is the mysterious patron behind the recent Necron activities.
Chaos is like the Joker in Arham Asylum series. The Joker always was the big bad in the end despite all initial marketing telling us he wouldn’t be …
Thanks guys. I won the bundle last weekender. I will make it easy on you guys this week, just give me everything. Lol. Thanks again. Have a great weekend all.
Super excited for 9th!
maybe Ill get more games in this time… I think I say that every edition 😀
Happy weekend all
I had a Necron army but had to sell a few years ago when I got married and didn’t have storage space. Now we have a bigger place. I want to get back into 40k. Loved Necrons.
Great episode.. don’t know about 40k.. I was really into it a few years ago but lost the love.. have about 2000 points of dark angels that I’m always contemplating selling
Woohoo – happy weekend…er!
So, first off, 9thed W40K – I cannot remember the last time I was less excited about a GW release. I stopped playing at 7th(?) – when everyone bought flyers – and I hated seeing these on a 28mm skirmish game. I sold up my 6000pts of Dark Angels, but I kept my eye on the game. Watching friends playing regularly, flicked through the books, but couldn’t get my enthusiasm back – and when 8th came along, I pretty much switched off. Most of my friends moved to 30K, and it doesn’t look like they are likely to switch back with 9th. I think I need to see a lot more about the rules before I get feel anything but apathy. And I still don’t like Primaris marines.
Moving on, the Raging Heroes stuff looks amazing – it’s the type of thing that it making me think about getting a resin printer – maybe the Elegoo Mars, or the Phrozen mini…..
Finally – I loved playing North and South on my friends Amiga many, many, many years ago………
Stay safe everyone 🙂
This Monday is my birthday, It would be great to win something, but it’s better to continue having your streams for the community, have a nice weekend!
Ah yes, the almighty weekender
Another Great Weekender Guys! It’s funny that Warren has finally noticed that there is ACW 15mm miniatures now, he needs to look into the Rule sets Johnny Reb III and Fire & Fury. Already a new version of Warhammer 40k Sigmarine aka 9th edition, I’m looking forward to seeing the newest Admech miniatures for my army. The older 40k 7th edition is not even the same game as the new 8th edition, they’re not compatible with each other.
Theses new Space Marine Primaris look awesome. Also glad that they are continuing to expand the necron range
Happy Weekend everyone. Justin lives!!!!!!!!
Happy Weekend….
Always wanted to do the ACW in 15mm or 10mm, but just another thing I never got around to.
On old games I used to love Journey’s End on the PC, started off lost in a cave collecting gold, then hiring a team then heading off to eventually kill a dragon. Suppose though there are many games like that now.
I think I’m most excited to see what the story is here.
I love the Necrons, so will be excited to see where it takes them!
As always Raging Heroes stuff ?
I would have thought that the ‘crusade’ emphasis in the new edition of 40K will be aimed at filling a gap, rather than replacing the in game narrative that they currently try to encourage with narrative gaming. And indeed, by giving people a reason to hold on to characters, that should promote people being invested in the character of their units and commanders. It really depends on how they do it whether it will be good or not.
I would like an edition whith one time codexes and no suplemments ather than like the cities of death and the like. Warhammer has become more like Magic the gathering, I can’t follow it, it keeps updated a lot and the codexes – supplements are expensive. I think 5th edition codexes had reasonable prices and the supplements only introduced new ways to play the game. Generaly I prefer Mantic’s and Warlord Games policy on that matter.
Personally I can’t wait for 9th edition to drop, i think it is building on solid foudations with 8th and the Necrons look awesome.
I get that if you wanted a major overall haul before this may be a underwhelming, but given the popoularity of 8th and the wave of success GW are on at the moment, i am not sure there is any need/desire for radical change. The level of experimentation Warren is looking for will probably come from thier Specialist games if it ever does.
I missed out on the original Khemet so it’s good to hear I can grab it now.
I used to love North and South with the bloke laughing while pretending to be dead. My friend used to hate playing me because I always won even with one man during the battles avoiding his cavalry by moving out if his way. Classic
Ohh When I finish my Tyranids, Necrons were going to be the next army I’d pickup. That new stuff look class.
love the theme of 40k just a shame the rules are so bad compared to most new games. i feel GW are totally stuck with the behemoth they have created and cannot get out of how they do the rules. Other than the basic rules being not great, the fact you have to buy several books and every copy of white dwarf to have unit rules etc is just great business but makes for a totally unplayable game.
they need to do a total rules rewrite, stop the books and articles and make it playable – and then lose loads of money as they are still have an winning formula.
It’s so weird to me that GW players only play GW and can’t ever say it’s bad or stop playing. well done GW for hooking in so many people, but for me there are too many amazing skirmish games that i can play and have so much fun that the i go you go turn mechanic makes 40k such a waste of time.
That being said i so want a sisters of battle army lol.
god weekender guys
Keep on tanking, Imperial Guard!
You guys need to treat Justin better…..If you chose to keep a pet gerbil at the office, you are responsible for his well being. That includes letting him out for exercise and stimulation every now and then. 😉
New Necrons! The new Necrons to me are metal and the scarabs swarm all over the enemies vehicles eating through their armour making it far easier to destroy them! Ah, the good old days of “new Necrons” ?
Just watched the latest weekender, once again you guys have produced a great show. I was thinking for the North and South campaign you could look at using the rules from any of Avalon Hill’s civil war games. It might take a bit work to get to what you want but I think they’d make for a great starting point.
Also, when did 1/72 scale become 20mm? I’ve always known it as 25 or 26mm. My gaming group used 1/72 scale for playing Command Decision and Combined Arms back in the day. We used Airfix figures for our infantry. Great fun.
Anyways, thanks again for a great show and I look forward to the next!!
Welcome back Justin.
I haven’t played 40k since 3rd edition. If I win a set I’ll give 9th a try.
With all this new and awesome stuff coming to 40k, I think I picked the perfect time to get into the game! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Just to be completely honest. Giving me a starter set of Marines or Necrons is the only way you’ll ever get me to buy another GW mini. I havn’t played any Warhammer of any kind for 30 years. But if I give my kids a starter set I would have to make regular viists to my local GW store for the next decade.
9th sounds great thus far.
Nice to see the necrons gets some love, however not so sure about 9TH yet.
Good show guys. 40k 9th hmm will it be the game I want it to be?..seems unlikely but I guess time will tell.
Sitting back to chuckle a little about AD&D with more Arabian Nights feeling a bit of age and thinking back to Al-Qadim. It makes me think that there is quite a bit of fun still to be had with some Greyhawk.
Now about the not having Justin on anytime soon… I believe that those words may not ring true. The Noseblower knows what lurks in our hearts for minis.
Great to see Justin again. Happy weekend
Loved North and South. Especially on the 8bit computers. That map based campaign was epic.
Happy weekend. Looking forward to 9th myself.
I have to admit the 9th edition trailer has helped build the hype in our household.
Still trying to catch up on my lost Weekender episodes. Think I’ll jump right to this one
I am very interested with the Necron push into the 9th ed.
I think I read somewhere that big guns are being buffed by “they hit for maximum hits when shooting at a unit that contains 6 or more models” but can’t remember where. You still have to roll wound and save and what not but instead of rolling for number of hits you take the max possible.
If true that sounds like a nice way to do “big gun, target rich environment” without going back to fiddling with templates.
Really looking forward to 9th Edition. Hope you’re having a great weekend guys!
Great show as always team. Stay safe, and bring on some 9th edition. I’m with Warren time to dust off the Necrons.
looking forward to the new 40k starter set. to me always the best entry into a new addition and i have no necrons so a chance to start a new army
I’m not a big fan of 40K as a game but I’m a great fun of the background. I always enjoy reading the 40K stories and background. I think it’s probably got one of the the most elaborate backgrounds there are right now.
Why is Games Workshop focusing on Narrative this release? I think I know why. Look at the success of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition. They streamlined their rules, their main 2 times a year books are story books, and people are using their system to tell stories. Look at Girls Guts Glory or Maze Arcana, or 800ton gorilla in the corner Critical Role. This is all mostly free marketing for Wizards of the Coast, if they choose to help them out a bit or cross-promote them, it is not costing them anywhere near what it would if they did it themselves. Even then, they have their own live play games because it works, it makes them money, and brings in new players. HyperRPG has their Show Grim Dark Dawn, and that has a story focus to the combat, with out of game story arcs, the games drive the narrative, and the viewers can take part in a meta game, all of which has to be helping sales for GW. GW wants more good PR. How do they get it, and cheap? Make a game that people like Critical Role and HyperRPG and Geek and Sundry can easily turn into shows. All of this has to have come up in their research and Data Mining for the next edition.
Is it possible I’ll finally be able to get my hands on space marine bikes? In my younger years, the cost was the issue. Now it’s the wife…
New AM looks interesting. I’m not much for the 40k rules but the models are delicious.
Really nice to catch another Weekender, keep them coming please and stay safe.
I didnt love the way the necrons looked in the animation, but the new models look really promising.
9th age w40k being Age of Sigmar in space? Hopefully means you will finally get to finish a game. Command points and strategems was the best and worse thing.
I hope Indy of the week lasts forever but please try and keep @warzan at least partly pointed at the subject.
Always bringing great content!
Slow drip of info not really making me more excited. Need to know how much money I’ll need and if I need a starter set split or to myself etc.
great show guys!! i am supper pumped for 9th edition
I like that the Primus marines are slowly starting to look like their smaller brethren
I started playing 40k with my 13yo son a few months ago.
He picked Space marines, I picked Necrons…
Lucky guess !
40k is tempting me back. I’ll see how 9th goes. I really would love to see some of the lesser chapters get some love, like the Carcharadon Astra, the Space Sharks. They really are the biggest a-holes in a galaxy of a-holes.
In for the win. Though I have to admit to being a little concerned as to how the new necron warriors are going to look standing next to the comparatively puny old Necron warriors I have a couple of boxes of…
Finally got around to watching all this, great stuff. Looking forward to 9th edition
To be honest, I’m afraid 40k will become too much like Age of Sigmar. I personally loved the gritty realism of Warhammer Fantasy, as opposed to the high fantasy stuff of AoS. With these new big necron models and some of the mechanics they mentioned, I just have this nagging fear at of my head that it will end up as sci-fi AoS.
This was a great show. The 40K animation is interesting.
7TV is cool!
I do hope they change the activation rules. I hate the massive you go, I go.
Love the Weekenders everytime. Loved the 3D printer tangent. Learned quite a bit actually, thanks guys!
Can you name drop the Worms Minis guy please?
Being a marines player never felt so good… at least not since the last kit… or the one before that I guess
