Your comment about ‘guiding the community’ is interesting. With so much on offer and so many different influencers (inc sites like OTT) how much you can lead probably depends on how invested your customers are in the store and supporting it. That’ll come down to your value propositions.

I hear what you have to say about customers using you as a venue without buying from you. Pay to play is a necessary return on your investment in space and material, but can be mitigated by awarding table credits as part of a loyalty scheme for any purchases from you.

Anything with a ‘long tail’ gets tricky stock-wise.  GW can support their own stores with a click and collect service.  I doubt you have distributors who can do the same for you. As you mention, they’ll either play safe buying stock levels they know they can shift quickly to retailers or be under-supplied themselves with anything popular.  What’s needed is a new supply chain model.
