The New York Bop game is totally a pastiche of the 70’s movie The Warriors. Hopefully whomever owns the license doesn’t notice!
The Warriors is once of my favourite movies. I love all the gang designs but The Baseball Furies were always my fave.
They did. The Kickstarter has been taken down. 🙁
Inspired by Lloyd, I made my own thread for my Soviet Bolt Action force. 🙂
Happy Sunday!
Endure the Stars…wtf?
Note to fellow Mercs backers – that’s boardgame quality minis nowadays on a budget 1/10 of what Megacon raised, yet alone TT quality!
Happy Sunday
Morning folks…
@lloyd New York Bop is based around this movie; The Warriors
http://youtu.be/MV4cgs-bPic
Happy Sunday
New York Bop has the following message on Kickstarter;
New York Bop – Street Gang Warfare by Ghetto Miniatures is the subject of an intellectual property dispute and is currently unavailable.
Looks like someone did notice……
“Re: New York Bop – Street Gang Warfare by Ghetto Miniatures
Description of copyrighted material: Paramount is the exclusive owner of the copyrights to the motion picture “The Warriors” (U.S. Copyright Reg. No. PA 47-283) and related works (collectively, the “The Warriors Property”).
Description of infringing material: The infringing material consists of a tabletop game involving 1970’s New York City street gangs called “New York Bop”, which is based on and unlawfully imitates the characters and other elements from The Warriors Property. As a result, the publication and/or sale of your New York Bop game infringes Paramount’s federally registered copyrights in The Warriors Property, in violation of 17 U.S.C. § 501.”
According to Ghetto FB page age the whole thing has been cancelled as they will not change the project and appeal to have the hold removed
Ah well great timing.
I section off each month feedback so that people can get proper feedback for each of their projects.
If you have a question ask it, trust me, our community is awesome, they will section it out, they will respond. A lot of people have a lot going on and trying keep track of multiple threads is actually much, much harder for them. In this way they only keep track of one thread, and it is nice an easy for them.
Plus there is the quote tool, which will help show which thing your talking about.
Also if you click the other end with the page where it says new, it will take you straight to the newest stuff you haven’t seen rather than the start of the page.
And I specifically made these threads after a few years back you closed the thread so check these out if it is too much, we are all about keeping the community together
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/feedback-for-waypn-for-march-and-april/

http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/what-were-we-painting-in-january-2016/
Additionally we have our own little things that we section off occasionally,
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/waypns-one-year-celebration/
I am a little worried that talk like too big and other such comments leads up to it being closed down again. People enjoy the single thread format.
If you want to ask a question, PM, @ the person, or even just taking it separate and showing it and saying hey how did you do this! Trust me, if the front of house is showing interest they will be chuffed.
If you want to have a chat, on here, skype whatever, feel free to contact me, I try real hard to keep our community together and a place that is welcome for everyone, so if you have some ideas you want to shoot around or anything like that, feel free. 😀
Hi @caladors, I think what you’ve done with the thread is great. It’s pulled the community together and got loads of people chatting to each other. No plans to shut the thread, it’s obvusly being injoyed.
In a way, like I said on the show it’s like a coffee table book, a fantastic way for people to sit back scroll down an absorbe what’s cool to see 🙂
Let’s see if opening some other threads and linking to them from WAYPN as a plus side to it. We might find it doesn’t work, maybe people will post all they want to say in WAYPN and feel there’s nothing more to say in an single thread.
The thread is many things to many people, I understand you find to be a coffee table book. For some they see it as an aspiration piece, they see people quietly working away on their projects turn them into something beautiful.
I think it is a grand idea for people to have their own thread, I have seen what has happened with a lot of them though. And I know why people don’t do it as much. See it may sound silly, but I have studied online behaviours and I know why people do certain things in an academic sense. The reason that people continue to post in WAYPN is because of feedback.
Often the reason why they stop posting in their own threads is it is disheartening when you don’t get a response, that is why people post WAYPN they know there will be a response.
I am not against individual thread, at all, and if you want to ask about anything in particular, I am happy to help facilitate.
That’s what I’ve found @caladors. I posted a Dungeon Saga thread and although there’s occasional feedback, it’s nowhere near as frequent as it is in WAYPN. WAYPN feels very much like a sub-community whereas my own thread just felt like me posting pictures
Definitely is a community, I do a lot to encourage feedback like one of the biggest prizes for the end of year thing went out to the top commenter, and the most frequent poster. A lot of people did beautiful work, and that is hard for a lot of people to do for a lot of reason, but feedback, and continual posting is something everyone can if they put effort in. We’re really glad to have you too 😀
I dont really see a good option for how to fix the issue @lloyd has brought up. Everything in one thread means folks are exposed to different people. Project threads dont ever seem to get comments and die out. That has been my experience.
La sigh, my comment regarding What are you painting now is awaiting moderation, most properly cause of the links. But the very TL;DR version is this, people like the thread, just ask away, and I will help you guys in whatever way I can.
Nothing wrong with the WAYPN thread @caladors, I do agree with some of @lloyd says and I plan on starting my own specific thread but will also still be posting on the WAYPN thread. It’s a great place to find inspiration and stuff that I wouldn’t normally look at and if people are interested in what I post they can find my thread for more details and to give/receive advice.
Don’t get disheartened, your thread has inspired me and others to try new things and to improve my techniques!
I am not disheartened, just a lot of frustration today with things not working, there is a 300 word post under moderation because it is ‘my first post’ :/ where I basically do what I always do.
Talk about how awesome our community is 😀
But yea, I explain everything better in that one.
Also I am super chuffed that it has inspired you 😀 Your work is already so good with the fabric patterns you paint on, just awesome man, just awesome. However, because of how long it takes me, I do it all in the videos now, which is the four things I linked :'(
It happens when you post multiple links in a comment to a video or news item. It happened to me during the week on the RK unboxing vid but it was approved and visible not long after.
Ha ha yeah, it is just so cringe worthy when it is says it’s because your first post. You just look at it going… Are you for real.
I’m with @lloyd and I’m off to start my own thread for my Bushido project now!
Justin I think you did get the American Civil War back to front, Lincoln where only able to issue the Emancipation Proclamation due to the civil war. But slavery did play a part in the war as well – and the question of State right vs. The Central Government
Specifically the rights of some states to have slaves.
I am not saying that the evil of slavery was not an issue, but it was not the sole issue – there was numerous other socio-economic reasons that the war happened. Aside from some firebrands many northers would have been fine with slavery as long as it was kept south of the Mason-Dixon line.
NOTE I did not mean to defend slavery in any way – few things in human history is as bad as owning an other human
Don’t worry about @oriskany he may not of heard, we probably lost him when you started talking about tea 🙂
Talking of which it’s time for a brew
I have to say I love the WAYPN thread. I do agree with you Lloyd that it can be difficult to navigate, I personally think two small changes to the forum can eliminate the problem. When I press quote not on the most recent page, it wont quote. Thats an easy way of bringing something old to the front again. Secondly, a quick way of getting through pages, to get to page 75 is a lot of clicking
If you separated it off, having a section called project logs could be cool
Happy sunday everyone. As an Endure the stars backer on kickstarter i can’t wait for this to arrive on my doorstep.
Happy Sunday,
for transportation of my boardgames i build new card holder and tokenboxes.
i managed to put all stuff from battlestar galactica in only ONE box and i can close it without any problems 🙂

A great show guys. I am waiting for Romains new painting tutorials.
Concerning the WAYPN thread I can see where @lloyd is coming from.
However, I’ve posted numerous separate threads and I certainly don’t want to complain about the feedback I’ve received at all but sometimes threads can go unnoticed and get buried quickly (especially with the amount of Off Topic discussions in the hobby forum 😉 ).
And page one threads are what people look at. The WAYPN thread is ALWAYS on page one and feedback is guaranteed so *everybody* can be sure to get attention. I think that’s awesomely unique to our forum!!
Thanks to @caladors efforts the previous somewhat lethargic painting community here rose up and created something wonderfully unique and inspiring! I am afraid without it there might be a risk we slide back into the past state of affairs..
Anyhow, next time I start a new project I’m gonna make sure I’ll post it there AND will open a stand alone thread for a more in depth look as well.
lex luthor armour on robot chicken…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhfJdJ2A6b8
Would you believe it. Got home after shooting the show to find the DC Univers game had popped up on the home screen and there was lex in the very suite mentioned 🙂
I backed New York Bop the last time and would love to see them succeed.
I’m with @lloyd regarding the project threads. I already make seperate topics for projects I want to share, mostly because more often than not there will be multiple posts as the project progresses.
Then I make a mention in the ‘What are you painting now’ thread with just one image and a link when a project is finished or I feel there is another need to share it there.
Easy browsers can then just like that post while hobbyists with questions can click the link to get to the full project thread.
Thanks for featuring my Magmadroth, guys, I really appreciate it.
@elromanozo I absolutely agree with you regarding the need for more contrast. There’s a little more there that the photo left out, but it could use some more. Working on lighting effects is the next area that I need to start focusing on in order to take my painting skills to the next level. I’ll be watching some of your videos to help me out.
Your work is already quite stunning ! All it needs is a little light management, really.
Pity about network bop
Would have worked great with my batman/New York scenery

Happy Sunday, I was at Wargames in Southport yesterday for the installation of the D-Day board. Well worth a visit.
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/historical-games/forum/topic/terrain-tutors-d-day-board/#post-new
The ‘what are you painting now’ thread has been a great inspiration to me, although I have to admit the last 6 weeks have been hobby free due to work, it got me painting regularly again apart from that.
I do get Lloyd’s point though, I think what I will do is create a single thread for my stuff, and post a link to it with anything I put in the WYPN thread, so in the unlikely event I do something out of character and is good enough for someone to wonder how I managed it, there is an easy way to ask.
I would hate to see less activity in the main thread though, from a personal point of view its a fantastic resource for inspiration for me, not just painting ideas, but to keep trying to get better.
For those who aren’t aware you can link to any post in any thread by right-clicking on the ‘#’ symbol and selecting ‘copy link location’ ( or whatever the equivalent is in your browser ). You can then paste the link in your post. For example, if i was talking about suetoniuspaullinus’ post on p141 of the WAYPN thread i could link to it thus:
http://www.beastsofwar.com/groups/painting/forum/topic/what-are-you-painting-now-1/?topic_page=141&num=15#post-157126
This link takes you directly to that specific post.
@totsuzenheni
Thanks man I am going to be doing a whole series on how to use the forums and hints and tips soon, if I manage to get to it along with everyone else that is super useful. How do you get the post number? because I don’t quiet think we are in the hundred thousands just yet ha ha.
Good work man 😀 Glad to see your watching 😀 post up there some time 😀
The example link i provided i got in its entirety when i right-clicked on the # symbol, copied the link location, and pasted it. I didn’t need to edit it in any way. So the post number is included. I can only assume its the 157126th BOW post rather than the 157126th WAYPN post.
Hey Lloyd! I got you a brass etched Millenium Falcon at Salute last year. Ok so it was tiny but it was shiny! Let Justin have his plastic kit (even if he doesn’t like Star Wars!). Ps. If you didn’t get it you need to have words with your brother as I gave it to him to pass on to you because no one ever gets you presents! Pps. It’s entirely possible that you get loads of presents and Warren just never gives them to you!
Lol I got it 🙂 I’ve not found time to build it yet. But I must make it soon. Would be a great way to get the feel of my new hobby space as it takes shape. Cheers @cybermonkey
I’m 68 issues into that “Build The Millenium Falcon” partworks at the moment. Waiting till I have all the parts before even considering starting construction but jeez it’s going to be huge! Makes me wish I’d just built the old plastic kit I got at university instead….
SMDH that the BoW crew haven’t seen The Warriors…I mean..c’mon guys….
I have seen it – I just didn’t want to bring it up ’cause, well…y’know heh. But anyway, game looked quite fun regardless.
Happy Sunday Evening everybody……………………….
Nice to see Romain on the show, i`m gonna need to nip and find his “How to Paint Tartan” video. As i have the 45th Highlander Rifles “Galwegian” box set X2 (with one of the set`s i`m looking at conversions)…………….
Liking Justin`s Ariadna soldiers, there well painted just a pity about the bases, but this is Justin after all.
@justin: I wouldn’t worry too much about slaughtering US American history. Most US Americans would slaughter it too. 🙂
interesting show guys.
I’ve loved the WAYPN thread, but man it’s difficult to keep up if you’re not following it regularly. Perhaps just restarting it afresh every month or so would be all you needed to do differently. No reason to stop people carrying on conversations or reposting pictures in each month’s new thread, but it would cap out each one at a managable size.
Oh, and yes @lloyd, if you’re going to build a viking hall you must have the roof removable. Unless you’re only going to use it for mass combat /regiment games then you need to get inside. A skirmish game which doesn’t let you really skirmish is a disappointment these days. And let’s face it, a viking hall is crying out to be played in one of the many viking skirmish games in use these days.
Ft Sumter April 12 1861
Emancipation Proclamation September 22, 1862
There is some slight of hand in the wording of the document. It stated that it applied to the south were the government in Washington had no control. However, it also specifically listed several counties in the south as being exempt from the proclamation. These were counties where Washington had control. i.e. places where it actually could have changed things on the ground.
Ain’t history wonderful?
I have my own personal projects thread in the hobby forum but I never use it because I dont ever get the same feedback as WAYPN. @caladors has helped to grow this community again and it is amazing to see everyone’s work.
Once you get to a certain level of skill no one ever critiques your work. I try to push my skills but it is very hard to know where I need more if everyone is wowed by my stuff.
Hmm, Teas of War or is it Geeks of War?
Warriors, come out to plaa-ay.
Happy Sunday
In regards to the forum I agree with Loyd I like it when you post a thread for your project under Work in Progress and then post the final pictures in completed projects including a link to the WIP thread.
@dignity I think the guys were a bit harsh on your Infinity models. I think they look great and you should do whatever you like on their bases because they’re your models.
I don’t know how the creators of New York Bop thought they could get away with that. It was so obviously & stunningly a rip off of *The Warriors*!. How they thought they could get away with that?!?!?! It’s either brazen & unabashed IP infringement or just incredibly poor researching. But yeah, I’m sure *Like The Warriors movie, right?* came up more than often enough!
Blaster was here…
Great show guys, we need Romain on the show more!
@justin
I think you’ve done a cracking job of your Ariadna mate! Your painting has improved no ends man and if I’m honest……. Gotta say I quite like the bases with the strong contrast. Put it this way, if you like it then spot on. 😀
I backed it last year but then it was
Funding Unsuccessful
This project’s funding goal was not reached on October 4, 2015.
I meant the New York Bop Game.
Ooof! Starting at 45:00 – @elromanozo talks trash about British tea, affirming that French tea is superior … comes within a breath of starting the next Hundred Years War. 🙂
To arms! To arms!
@dignity and @lloyd – I’ve never said Justin slaughtered American history . . . 😀 That must have been somebody else. Since he’s asking me at 1:10:50, he’s on the money. The movie Gangs of New York takes a rather fanciful but very gritty look at the draft riots that took place in New York City during American Civil War, the summer of 1863 I think, just after the Battle of Gettysburg and Fall of Vicksburg.
And yes, there are a lot of “trigger warnings” in that movie, including race, immigration, what the duties of a citizen are in regards to war, “class warfare,” (one of my favorite rich bastard lines: “You can always hire one half of the poor to kill the other half …”), etc.
Thumbs up, Justin. Keep “slaughtering.” 😀
I know I’m late to the party on this one, but I just wanted to chime in with the support for @caladors ‘ thread. I do agree with @lloyd to the extent that it’s next to impossible to find a specific thing in it. People having their own projects threads would be great, but as others have already said, they just don’t seem to work on BoW.
I’ve posted photos of my minis on several other sites and got way more feedback on each of them than I ever have from BoW. I even get many more comments on my own WordPress blog than on BoW.
This isn’t a criticism of BoW by the way. Each gaming site has its own culture and none can be all things go all men. BoW always feels to me to favour the kind of player who’s more interested in rules than minis. It also has a thriving historical war games community. It’s just not that into painting compared with several other sites.
WAYPN has actually enlivened the hobby forum to a level of activity far above what it had before. More power to it, I say.
Dual posting may be the way to go, but I’m not yet convinced.
Romain is hilarious! We need to have Romain on the show more, to counter Lloyd!
Glad you liked the table gents 🙂
Could the WAYPN thread just become a few different iterations like “WAYPN (40K)” or “WAYPN (Terrain)” or “WAYPN (15mm)”? Something like that? Depending on the groupings gives people some freedom to post whatever but also helps people find the inspirational projects they might be looking for and maybe makes each thread more manageable for folks to follow.
Finally getting chance to catch up on this XLBS, having just a quick look at the comments I have to say I love the WAYPN thread but I’ll actually have to watch this episode to get the context.
Loved the show, great seeing Romain on love his painting vids , a great asset to BOW. I was amazed that game wasn’t taken down before. Which is why I never supported it this time or the first time around. Although I loved the movie I didn’t want to give them money to have the project get halfway done and then shutdown.
Lots of nice “shinny” things and some good crack! lmao
