Time Of Legends: Joan Of Arc
We got to sit down and play through some amazing games of Joan Of Arc this week and so we thought it would be great to chat more about the game with Leo of Mythic Games.
This truly is going to be a fantastic new game to delve into and in 15mm! There's plenty explore with many variations on the game and the Fantasy aspects certainly appeal.
Kickstarters
We now take a look at two Kickstarters. However, in a twist one of them finished!
Zealot Miniatures have now fulfilled on their Twisted Catacombs Kickstarter and we take a look at their amazing resin terrain which can be looked at on their webstore HERE and HERE.
As well as that it would be remiss of us to not mention that Blood & Plunder: No Peace Beyond The Line, is now available to back on Kickstarter right now.
Have a great weekend of gaming!

I see the Weekender on YouTube but not linked here yet…

@30:00 minutes Justin and Leo trying to tease out some anticipation as to what the new game is about… “I wonder, please tell us”…
Ignoring that big ****-off picture captioned Joan of Arc behind Leo’s head and now the Weekender banner leading JoA….
I wonder what it could be? 😉
lol that’s my monday entertainment (@dignity ribbing) sorted right there he he
RIBBING
informal
good-natured teasing.
“he took a good deal of ribbing with the utmost good humour”
Just incase anyone thìnks it somthing even more fun 😉
“Don’t blow your beans in one shot!” –@dignity 1:08:00
I take it that’s something that people from NI do?
According to Urban Dictionary “blow your beans” is a bit rude… you know… “climactic”?
To Leo and his colleagues. I’m very excited about JoA and the way you describe it… Looking even further ahead you have to consider a Norse myth version, with the Norse gods on a MB-Pantheon style meets a JoA Viking style with giant trolls and other mythical beasts… They could invade England and encounter the Green Men…
OMG I have to go and lie down at the thought of it…
Man I hope the Fabled Realms stuff is not going to be put behind a paywall! And when is that Demo!!
No its all going out frontstage like 90% of what we create. 🙂
And ‘pay wall’ is not my favourite moniker for backstage… ‘eat avenue’ sounds closer lol 😉
Fair enough….and the demo?
I would say soon 🙂
So are we officially referring to the JoA minis as ’15mmOMG scale’ lol
Well 15mm is obviously still a large scale for me but he’ll the details on some of the JoA minis is stunning… I am so going to get in this game…my poor wallet…lol
This game is one that ‘needs a moment’ once it clicks it just bursts to life in the mind.
Couple of lets plays coming soon
@warzan if the game design works half as well as Mythic Battles Pantheon seems to do so then I think it will be an awesome system. And who can resist a Dragon which has a huge wing span:-)
In the North East of England we have our own tale similar to the hanging of the werewolf by the village. It even has a connection to France to boot…
http://www.thisishartlepool.co.uk/history/thehartlepoolmonkey.asp
Hanging the “French spy” is my absolute favourite moment of historical English idiocy and I’m happy for any reminder.
haha, damn you BoW for fueling my shiny syndrome, just this week you have me excited about Blood and Plunder, Fabled Realms and now Joan of Arc.
3 good picks right there 🙂 lol
Nice to hear that Time of legends will have such a diverse way of playing. I like to have those options depending on what style of game I want to play.
I am sold, one gigantic dragon, I can’t say no to that.
The art looks great.
Sceptical at first but now I’m hooked, I’ll reserve some funds for JoA. Even I want this dragon!
And the prospect of being able to recreate historical battles makes this KS a must for me..
Yeah the Dragon could turn out to be a triumph, wait to you hear some of the game mechanics surrounding it 🙂
That dragon alone is enough to sell the game.
Even if they only manage to make it half the size he mentioned it would be worth every penny.
I’m glad I’m going to have time to fill my reserves, because it looks like I’ll be needing them when this one launches.
I do wonder how they’re going to top that one though, because they’ve already raised the bar once MB is delivered.
Looking forward to Joan of Arc
JoA is definitiv my next big KS… I need this Dragon <3
Joan of Arc looks absolutely amazing. That Dragon is totally awesome, and the only reason to buy the game, if it was not for the other reasons, like beautiful models and a really great sounding game. And terrain…
Will you have off the grid rules? I know several gamers who are a bit anal about playing on a grid and won’t touch something like this, might be an idea so to attract more backers.
I don’t actually have an answer for that. I would prefer they didn’t tbh at least not for the foreseeable future.
The game (even at this early stage) is pretty spectacular and has way too much potential to split resources into another type of system. I will try to find out though.
Seriously though get your friends to sit down with a couple of really good boardgames such as pandemic etc
I gotta say I originally had the same reluctance and dreadball and deadzone (mantic Hewitt Thornton etc) started to change my mind
Mythic battles completely changed it 🙂
Great show and good to watch, but I’m sorry to say that in my opinion the show really lacks something without @warzan. Would have loved to see his reaction to those Grymkin and the great dungeon terrain. Looking forward to seeing everyone’s hobby activity on Hobby Night Live
I completely agree looks like about 70kgs was missing 😉
“Good evening, I’m Ronnie Corbett, one half of the comedy duo ‘The Two Ronnies’.”
“And I’m the other one-and-a-half.”
Paraphrased from memory, still makes me laugh to this day.
lol
I love the historical/fantastical blend they’ve achieved here. By taking the accounts of the day completely at face value, they’ve remained true to history while being able to incorporate the fantastical. It’s a fine line and it seems to me that they’ve really got it right.
Can’t wait for Joan of Arc.
Stop getting Leo on the show!
I thought that I’d had KS fill after MB:P, but Joan of Arc is looking really cool as well. How am going to avoid getting the dragon expansion?! It’s going to be massive even if it was a 28/32mm game, but at 15mm it’s going to be a proper dragon.
Churches, demons and angels, oh my!
I was sold on Joan of Arc when I saw the amazing 15mm minis. Seeing the dragon head/neck sculpt just made me even more excited – an incredible beast. Can I suggest trebuchets and siege towers folks? Plus bombards and petards.
I have never seen 15mm minis so well executed, incredible demonstration of not only today’s technology but the skill of the sculptors to make them still meaningful and beautiful – rescaling 28mm down would not have been effective it’s own.
The thing for me with 15mm is that I don’t really enjoy painting 15mm humans figures – I feel that they are a bit small. When you go down to the smaller scales it’s is usually the other things – tanks, cars, war machines and so on – with this there is realty just a dragon (which could have been the size they are making it without the figures being 15mm) and a few (unspectacular) buildings to show – there was a lot of time devoted to figures (which suggests that the game is going to have a lot of them) when really it needs to be about other things..
Happy weekend guys.
And lo, Leo did announce a Time of Legends, bringing forth His messanger Joan of Arc. And so it was that 32mm gaming companies were laid waste and gamers impoverished. The time of 15mmOML was upon us.
*messenger
Always loved Joan of Arc, forked out a fair few euros for Infinity limited edition of their own Joan
JARC had that mighty empires feel of GW..back in the day. I wonder is ships will take part for coastal areas and of the channel… got to hold back the french… I also gave me the whole demons and witchcraft of a pc game called darklands…
Darklands review…25 years old..!!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qA9osUjuux8
I wonder if they is a single player element to this…?
I believe it hasn’t been designed with solo play in mind, though as the Mythic Battles: Pantheon KS campaign showed, if there’s interest in solo scenarios then Mythic Games will do them.
That Joan of Arc game has me really really interested. Gonna start saving for the kickstarter right away. I wanna get me a dragon! Can’t believe the beautiful freehand paint job on those shields. Totally blown away by that.
Thanks for a great show. The weekender and Hobby Night Live are becoming my favorite moments of the week/month/year (yeah, go home Christmas! I’m having a cup of tea in my pj, enjoying this instead)
I`m keep my eye out for the planet of the apes game…28mm plastic apes..!!!!
Now there’s a license with promise!
Riddle answer
Take murderer across and come back
Take witness across and leave there but take murderer back across
Leave murderer and take brother over and leave with witness
Go back and fetch the murderer and go across and join the others
JoA looks stunning will be interested to see this hit KS in the Autumn
The Joan of Arc models look gorgeous, not to mention the outstanding paint jobs. And 15mm is a great choice for scale. I bet the KS will be insane.
Happy saturday!
Well, i thought i was done with Kickstarters well, because of space of course 😉 But the Joan of Arc game could solve that and those minis are awesome!
Even though i will check out Fabled Realms, i’m not sure i will back this because of space issues but, a few heroes could be a nice addon to some of my other games…
Thanks for bringing out Zealot Miniatures releases, i have been searching for stairs for quite some time now!
See you on sunday!
good work az. keep it up.
Aww thank you kindly sir 🙂 Az
agreed, well done mate.
Yep, nice job Az!
Good balance of humour, smileyness and keeping things moving along.
Time of Legends Joan of Arc looks amazing!
Im sold, take my money!!
Joan of Arc looks stunning, can’t wait for the KS. Those are the finest 15mm minis I’v ever seen.
Leo! Leo! Leo!
O…M..G! Dragon! I have been saving my pennies for Joan of Arc and cannot wait to see the KS.
One thing about the Twisted Catacombs parts is they are much more affordable then some other set pieces I have seen. In addition, this is great for other games other than just D&D like Descent, Gloomhaven and others.
I really like the Fabled Realms Kickstarter exclusive minis. Both have lots of character. Yet another reason to back this one!
So… When did those whiley Fench invent a miniaturisation machine..?
Those figures looked amazing. And don’t get me started on that bloody Dragon. Oh my.
great pisode ! This made me watch Joan D’arc with Mija Jovović, one of best medieval movies ever made !
I, like others here had said no more miniature games. Leo I now love you and hate you in equal measures.
it reminds me of Warhammer 2nd edition with narrative driven stuff like terror and vengeance of the lichemaster. I think the big key to why many still rate the second edition Warhammer scenarios as the best was its story driven approach. it is a style that has received little attention since but it looks like time of legends is going to give us it in spades.
Leo said it himself that while MB:P was a skirmish game with narrative scenarios Joan reverses that equation. most games don’t even have proper scenarios attached let alone have the narrative take the lead. this all to often leads to a disconnect between the story and the game. sure the stories there in the background but it’s not front and centre driving your experience.
At last someone is finally delivering what I have been waiting for. stand up and take a bow mythic games.
I have been drifting further and further away from wargaming due to the depth of the experience when compared to more story driven games.
things like Kingdom death monster, shadows of esteren and mouse guard take you on a beautiful journey. an altogether emotional experience. the very best of what table top has to offer. a way of connecting with and living the amazing fairy tales, myths and legends that so inspired us in the first place. i’m looking for so much more from my games these days, and why not ? companies are starting to deliver this kind of experience.
The main reason I didn’t back MB:P and the main reason traditional wargames have not yet become obsolete for me is the miniatures. it’s the one thing that has come with the crossover that hasn’t yet worked for me. it’s not like board games can’t do it, KD:M is a match for or surpasses anything in table top in this regard. with time of legends no such concerns though. the miniatures are stunning and the scale is offering us not just incredible models but the opportunity to see things like dragons as professor Tolkien himself envisioned them.
they have done such a good job with the rules with MB:P that i’m sure Joan will measure up.
absolutely right to make sure the art is spot on. these things are part of an overall collection and for me at least I like my collection to look as beautiful on the shelf as it does on the table
twisted catacombs is my kind of gig. I do need reminding of these things as the industry moves so fast.
Bit disappointed there was no mention of Circle of BloodsKickstarter.
great entertaining show guys.
Well I don’t want to blow my beans or anything, but Joan of Arc sounds/looks absoflippinlutely fantastic!
Every time I think to myself “right thats it, I’ve got enough game systems…”, then I go and make the mistake of visiting BoW everyday, only to be assaulted by Blood n Plunder and Joan! aye caramaba :/
Great show.
A question occurred to me the other day. Whatever happened to re-roll magazine?
That terrain at the end…c’est magnifique ^^
JoA looks amazing. I’m totally in for everything. Also backed B&P KS already, can’t wait for that one
Mythic Games try and leave me some money
Wow I really think that Joan of Arc kickstarter is going to be a blast. They idea of those really big monsters is exciting. The only thing that I dislike is the smaler scale, it means I have to buy a lot of new terrain 😉
Actually, you won’t. The set includes buildings, trees, etc 🙂
Oh Leo, don´t do this again. Joan of Arc looks amazing.
How could you show twisted catacombs terrain and not show the dungeon bunnies? The most horrific and fearsome creatures of the fowl depths of any dungeon (and the ones I begged the hardest for lol). Such a fantastic Kickstarter . 😉
Great weekender, and oh dear… a lot of essential buys coming up!
Holy smoke!!!! 15mm and amazing detail!!!! #bloodandplunder#iwant
I’ve decided my days of backing board games on KS are coming to an end. I’m more a tabletop gamer I prefer the higher standard of miniatures even if it does mean higher cost.
The only board game I plan to back is Monolith’s Batman because I’m a huge Batman fan. JoA will be a success I have no doubt about that as the guys at Mythic do seem to pull out all the stops.
The concept art and miniatures for Joan of Arc look amazing! And Leo can tell all he want how easy it is to paint them, but that is still in inhuman job the studio painter did on those mini’s.
Looking forward to the demo game, but I’m already pretty sure I won’t be able to resist once the kickstarter hits.
That Joan of Arc game is the first 15mm game that has really caught my eye. Will have to really give it a look at.
Joan of arc is looking insane. I am sold already, and I can’t wait to see this Kickstarter!
@ Justin
Would you please discuss priming wood
Leo has to be one of my favorite people to watch talking about his games. If you weren’t excited about Joan of Arch before that segment his enthusiasm just gets me every time. I wasn’t sure about the game, I think 15mm scared me a bit. Now I am hooked and I can just see my budget blown on this game…..
On the other hand Warren you are scaring me man, what’s up with this large withdrawal of yours. First it was the UK games expo, all fronted by baldy and Dawn and Gianna. Seriously mate I think I am getting Warzan withdrawal here…… not that I don’t like Justin, he has come a long way and really has grown in his presenter skills, but you are the king in my eyes and please don’t make yourself so scarce.
Joan of Arc looks great, they got me on Mythic Battles and it looks like they got me on this too.
Nice Episode !
That dragon for Joan of Arc is going to be insane when its complete. I was on the fence about this game but seeing this… wow! :O
Oh lord.. I’m so far behind on my Weekenders! Better try to catch up!
