January 12, 2024 by avernos
It's OTTWeekender time! In this week's show, we explore the exciting news that Mantic has teamed up with 343 Industries to bring Halo to the tabletop. The new 40mm miniatures game is going to be focused on the multiplayer side of the Halo video games and that has us very intrigued as to where it will go!
We discuss what we'd like to see from a Halo miniatures game as well as the potential as to where they could take it in the future. Would you like to see Elites and Brutes in the game and some different game modes against Covenant foes?

HALO!
‘olla
bonjour

As regards Halo Live Action, I did see Movie Halo Forward Unto Dawn. was made before the series, but I remember it was worth a watch and seemed to tie in with the details I was hearing about, had Spartans running around fighting alien creatures, whilse rescuing army Cadets.
Only 90ish minutes so if they made the series anything like that would be ok
The Foam Front? what is Gerry the Foam Guard now?
I am not lucky. Prove me wrong.
Hanging the washing and watching weekender. Ti’s rock and roll in my 40s.
I don’t usually like cardboard terrain, but those shown on the show are really doing the best job of convincing me otherwise. Relatively new to the show, but really like the laid back atmosphere.
Oy, it’s Friday the OTT boys are on so ?
Dungeonalia has been a great motivator for me. I’m working on some terrain and map tiles of a windmill for the first game for Dragons of Icespire Peak.
The Acid House terrain looks great! It would be great for D&D and the cyberpunk set would come in handy for Dredd.
Yay weekender time is now.??
Is Warren ill? You discussed Aliens in Miami and he didn’t magically appear.
I thought it was Gerry nipping over to see Oriskany ?!??
An the Americans panicking seeing Gerry for the first time.?
The card terrain is fantastic looking for gamer’s to fight in an around.
Love all the alternatives to the Old World that are out for so many different companies. Thanks for a Great Show again.
Ronnie did hint that something big was coming in 2024 but just for once did not give the slightest hint as to what it was
I’ve seen the first episode of HALO an it looked good.??
The big man says comment here… excited about When Nightmares Come, it sounds right up my midnight dark alley.
welcome
This week’s episode is brought to you by the Elves.
Looks more like a baboon than monkey Lloyd.?
Fab show guy’s.
Love the site! As always, fantastic show!!
Not to kick the nest or shit on what stuff people likes…
but
Halo lore? I can’t think of anything less exciting than eight novels of “Super space soldier punches people in face”
My apologies to all those who I have offended. But I’m right
LMAO, well said 😉
I don’t know if I’m lucky but I am a punk 😉
It’s the Weekender! Yah…………(really cold here but at least it’s the weekend)
The opening of this show is my favorite so far…@avernos said, “and little Shay. I have pants older than Shay.”! Absolutely loved those lines ??
Love the Organized Play for Conquest! ??
I love Mantic. Excited to see what Halo will be like with them putting on the tabletop
It’s a shame the halo game will be 40mm. I know it’s popular these days, but I wish I could mix the minis in with ones I already have. Alas; I enjoy Mantic’s games.
If Halo is just going to be spartan vs spartan kinda runs into the 30k problem. Everyone has the same stuff. Also if it is only going to a small model count game, how can you gleefully shoot, grenade and buttstroke your way through a band of heavily armed toddlers? All the awesome things done and cool lines dropped come from the campaign games, books and shows (not the TV show.. that was shite). Name a team deathwatch moment you can start to talk about and everybody instantly knows..besides some 10 year old that saying he shagged your mum. The height of awesome that is.
Kinda missing the opportunity of all the weapon and forces available in the halo universe to play what would seem like an endless training simulation for your elite Spartans to never engage the enemies of humanity. Just my rant anyway.
And Lloyd, 12mm fits with 1/144 and is the best scale. Has model kits and terrain readily available. Ìs a scale not a rough idea how tall some part of a figure is, which changes from place to place. And is easy to scale down or up to for 3d printing.Makes it perfect for wargaming all periods. Great detail still but quicker painting, smaller storage footprint and actual room to manoeuvre forces on a 6×4 table….OK all done now.
Love me some age of sigmar, lets see whats in store for other armys.
The weekend starts here
Is it really 40mm scale? Also read that Mantic corrected that one of the figures is 40mm tall, but still 28mm (or whatever) scale.
Very curious about the Osprey book. Most Cthulhu-esque adventure relies on setting the atmosphere with written narrative material that’s usually single-use (eg. RPG adventures).
Creating balanced spearhead sets will be most important and and releasing them quickly.
Never played Halo so a Tabletop version sounds interesting.
Yay…
Of to work.
Thanks you for makin this day fantastic!!
Halo is sounding really interesting.
Excited to hear more.
Interested in getting into age of sigmar so will take the chance!
Helo Halo. Must check it out!?
HALO on the tabletop is extremely tempting, even just for the minis.
I loved the halo games back from when it first came out, but I’m not sold yet on the idea of a miniatures game. I’ll have to wait and see what it looks like.
Great show as always – hopefully this push for the Old world will get people to focus sculpts on character and not just massive amounts of details. I still remember painting old Brettonian archers back in thr day and really enjoying it, i think with some more modern painting techniques theu could look really cool and give people the fun of painting. Having too much details (looking at you city states) will ruin people’s fun and put them off painting.
Happy weekend folks.
Those Acid House terrain sets look absolutely spot on for gaming club terrain.
Nice one 🙂
That Acid House Terrain very nice love the way folds away be cool to see one suitable to 40k (any part). Not sure about Halo mini may be good.
I’m tempted by the dungeonalia.
I love the historical miniatures produced by Victrix but I don’t yet know what games I would play with them – Open to suggestions though!
depends on what you fancy, there are a load of small scale skirmish games out there like Clash of Spears, SAGA, or you could go for massed battle games like Hail Caesar, or there are games that give the impression of massed battle without having to paint as many minis such as Age of Penda or the DBX games. Pick a period and a scale you fancy having a go at and I’ll narrow it down
That new osprey board game sounds fascinating. They do such a good job at fusing genuinely interesting game mechanics with history.
While I’ve no particular connection to, or interested in Halo, I’m glad this is happening. It’s good to see a popular IP get a game – that’s got to be good for the hobby – and I’m happy to see Mantic get another property they ought to be able to do well with.
awesome news
Am I lucky?
Im more interested in new walking dead, but Halo could be cool. Want to see what their covenant look like.
@avernos just think if @lloyd hadn’t spent 9 hours a week on Halo training he could have finished Rome
Oh my god when uou put it like that llud is screwing me
The indie of the week has just caused me to order a cyberpunk set, you b@$*&^ds. My thinking is Judge Dredd, Firefight, Stargrave and 5 Parsecs from home. Won’t be able to use it for Star Wars as there’s not been a fire sale yet @sundancer
Mwahahahahahahaha
That card terrain looks fantastic. To outfit a full table for that price is great value!
I’m quietly working on my Dungeonalia entry. Probably be ready to post something soon.
That Acid House terrain looks good. If I wasn’t already well invested in 3D print and scratch-built terrain, I’d probably just pick up something like that and be done with it. Though I can think of a friend that it’d suit well.
I feel generally quite lucky, but would like to put my luckiness to the test.
When Nightmares Come sounds interesting.
Not bothered about Halo – I just want my Warpath (even replaced my old rules so I can use those “and” the new rules)
Oh I saw it @avernos… I have a Conquest pile up that needs sorting!
Hmmmm Halo coming back, interesting. But where’s The Walking Dead, that’s what I want
Honestly, it always seemed odd that Halo did a space battle game first.
Good show guys.
