New Medieval Miniatures! Perfect 28mm Plastic Kits For Crusades & Beyond #OTTWeekender
July 12, 2024 by avernos
It's OTTWeekender time! In this week's show, we're going all Medieval. We take a look at the awesome range of plastic miniatures in 28mm (and 10mm) coming from Wargames Atlantic for The Barons' War and other Medieval Historical wargames. Wargames Atlantic has a pretty awesome range coming out in plastic with loads of weapon options.
These 28mm miniatures are going to be great for Medieval battles during the Crusades but also closer to home. Some of the miniatures would be perfect for Robin Hood and his Merry Men clashing with the Sheriff Of Nottingham. The 10mm Agincourt collection is also going to be great for epic battles during the same period.

man i am so pumped for warcrow
Mmmm… Nuns.
I’m really enjoying all the fantasy and medieval minis and games. I’m looking forward to Warcrow week!
Really like the new Wargames Atlantic medieval range!
Yay weekender time is ours now OTTers ?
Those Darkgrim ratmen are so much cooler looking than skaven.
Lloyd will be using the shields as paving stone’s for his Rome board’s perhaps??
Aw man those Wargames Atlantic medieval minis have me pipedreaming something rotten. So many possibilities.
Are you living in a different reality @avernos? The final is on sunday, not saturday.
got it mixed up with the Tailteann Cup final
you’ll be pleased to hear Down won.
An Dun Abu \o/
I have faith, will the sisters come.
Bam ?
Have a gang of men and the tank is the castle/keep strong point of the unit game wise in bolt action ?
John’s in a gamer’s panic room ????
Ooh close combat space nuns?
Love Wargames Atlantic stuff. Those mounted knights honestly remind me of the Prince Valiant movie from 1954 (a guilty pleasure of my childhood spent watching old movies with my grandpa)
Ooh HAL cylons ??
Nuns with guns is cool, but it’s Wargame Atlantic stuff that’s got me excited.
It was the rocket launching pipe organ tank that drove home the point that we’re all just having fun here in the 41st millennium.
A slit hint of Bettlejuce coming from some off the monster’s.
Or last of the mohicans.
They have a Pans Labyrinth look.
Space truckers?
Fab show guy’s ?
Nightmare on Teletubbie-street….. can’t unsee that!
Those medievals are indeed tempting.
So much good stuff this week guys, excellent job
Great show. Final is on Sunday though ?
as long as England loses it matters not on the day
?
good show guys as normal hmm Nuns with guns
Well, those Eldertubbies are going to haunt my nightmares. Thanks lads……
I love it when we get Ben, John and Gerry doing the Weekender. It seems such a chill time. No arguments, nothing over the top, everyone just comfortable in each other’s company. A very comfortable listen!
The weekend starts here
Found it now what
Who doesn’t love a pipe organ that shoots missiles.
great show guys, shame Otherworlds going and its selling fast
its a shame Otherworlds going
All the plastic medieval minis coming out at the moment has me salivating
Kind of feeling like painting some Bretonnians after seeing medieval goodness..
More kickstarters to check out ?
Looking forward to the Warcrow week.
Sci-fi Gloomhaven looks like it’ll be a good time.
The ersatz Sisters of Sigmar are giving me the nostalgia warm fuzzies.
Ben trying to find the LotR animated series and only finding it in Spanish reminded me of watching a 1963 horror movie called “The Terror” in Spanish a few Halloween’s back, and the streamer was able to secure the Spanish language rights to broadcast it because it was so awful and I think the majority of the copyrights for it were allowed to lapse. lol
I was going to buy from Otherworld this week, but my car said No.
I’ll be backing the Eldertubbies, though. That weirdness appeals to me.
Also, as a parent of young kids through the 2000’s and such, I can assure you that Teletubbies wasn’t even the weirdest show that company produced…
So much cool stuff coming! Bolt action, war crow.. war games Atlantic. Man, my wallets in trouble!
I’m amazed at the amount of work put on the whole Eldertubbies thing, being essentially the nth throwaway “child stuff but creepy” idea. The miniatures are excellent, but the artwork is even better. Goes to show that it’s all in the execution, no matter how tacky the idea might seem at first.
I really like those new Atlantic medieval miniatures, but to be honest the metal Paul Hicks sculpts for The Barons war are on a league of their own
Man, was having a long day and then Gerry put out that line with nuns.. made me crack up
I’ve become really interested in Bolt Action with the start of 3rd ed.
The thing for me with Bolt Action is the fact we’re using 28mm minis. Given we’re usually playing on a 6’X4′ table the rules HAVE to have a really truncated firing range distance (the old 40K 2′ for rifles), plus the fact you can charge a really long distance as well.
This also means that the tanks (and artillery when you get to things like the 88mm) really shouldn’t be on the table. At most given it’s in 28mm we should be seeing APCs and possibly light armour in the form of armoured cars. Putting a troop of King Tiger 2s and seeing the opponent field an equal number of JS1s is just crazy when your trying to play on a 6’X4′.
BUT at the end of the day Bolt Action isn’t really an historical wargame, it’s more a game of comic book WW2 (think of your copies of Commando and Battle here). Designed to give a good game primarily, it’s difficult to try and argue “historical” reasons why this and that should or shouldn’t be in games of Bolt Action. Which puts players in a difficult position as they try an marry up any historical research and the game itself.
But for me the “ideal” game of bolt action is to drop all the big points stuff and just run with a full platoon of infantry on each side with maybe a APC or two (after all the main threat to infantry is the MG rather than an AT shell). The APCs and armoured cars are largely small arms proof, so the AT elements you need are just the lighter stuff (like Bazookas, ‘Fausts, and PIATs) and no need to start field stuff like 88mm and 17 Pdrs on the table). But that’s a player choice, rather than playing the game more competitively and using RAW to the extreme.
It also seem weird that Warlord decided to go with new plastic German Airborne in winter dress rather than putting the German Heer in greatcoats in the set (as this would have been an ideal set with the Greatcoated Germans being able to on a green/grass table without looking out of place (a lot more useful for a new player buying their first WW2 minis and the Bolt Action rules)). But I guess Heer don’t sell very well, it’s rather telling that Warlord STILL haven’t remastered the basic Heer set of infantry (the current offerings are still with the old separate weapons).
Must admit I’ve been looking at the V for Victory rules with interest with the emphasis on morale rather than mass infantry casualties (Bolt Actions games usually have squads wiped out to a man, rather like games of 40K).
Trying to tell myself i don’t need Warcrow – its not working.
It’s Saturday morning, weekender time!
Nice prize this week, some nuns with guns would look great on my pile of potential. Although these Warcrow look very interesting, too. One can always pile up higher, I guess ?
Warcrow Warcrow Warcrow!!! Bolt Action 3rd Ed also looks cool. WA’s Medieval Knights will probably find there way into my Frostgrave warband. The snazzy rats look ace too. We are being spoilt this week. Cheers gents.
I wonder which artist painted these models for Warcrow. They are breathtaking.
I was told that it wasn’t me…but they do name the painter in Warcrow week…
For a minute there I thought the Otherworld discount code was Schlong and Thanks…
The Eldertubbies are intriguing. Didn’t know they were ‘a thing’, and now I’ve gone down a rabbit hole….
Interested to see Warcrow week too.
Warcrow ist teasering me?
Why buy that slug mini when you can just heavily varnish one from your garden?
Looking forward to the Wargames Atlantics sets. Still notsure about Warcrow, probably not since I’m not really into the mechanics and don’t really like most of the models.
Another great episode and really looking forward to the Warcrow content. Also the 10mm samurai are just so tempting.
Oh my I just found and brought Ivanhoe for a fiver on amazon, the BBC version.
Fun fact Ivanhoe was films in Ashby de la Zouche
Love nuns with guns!
Shame about Otherworld Miniatures, though very glad to learn that the ranges will be picked up by others. I suppose everyone deserves a retirement!
more of it happening these days
It was confirmed on the PCP that the next plastic set from Atlantic will be mounted sergeants. Of course this is after I buy the metals. Also the accuracy of Clearco Miniatures is amazing! Top notch company that needs the recognition.
depends on what you mean by next, there are two sets on their way to me now that are none of those…
Silly question, perhaps, but does the new UHD format and show only allow for 3 participants at a time. I’m not complaining as when we had 4 onscreen talking heads there always seemed to be 1 who was mostly quiet, so this 3 person format presents more presenter engagement. I like it, plus looking forward to the Warcrow week – all the minis look amazing but it’s the first time I’ve wanted some Orks.
no we can have four but with work and holidays recently 3 has been better for us, also we noticed the quiet ones as well!
Medieval Wargames Atlantic, nice!
Nuns with Guns, sounds a typical shabby Nazi trick.
I’ve been thinking about Deadzone for a while mostly as a terrain project
do it, it’s a cracking system and can easily carry over into other games
I think I could get the wife back into painting with this set.
Nice one 🙂
Forgeborne looks so hood and I’ve been looking for a longer running game, also boltgun 3rd edition might get me into ut if the company of heroes Kickstart doesn’t 1st
Dunno what my Pic is but it’s beautiful lol
it’s definitely something isn’t it?
Could it be a California Raisin dressing up for halloween
Assuming the wargames Atlantic knights are scaled to match the Baron’s War range (which is what I think Andy Hobday said when I asked about them), then they will sort of scale with Victrix if you get creative with the bases and use thicker bases on the WGA and thinner ones on Victrix. Victrix miniatures are quite chonky compared to Footsore so it stands to reason that the same will be true of the new plastics
Wargames Atlantic are just smashing it right now. Great stuff.
Thanks for another great Weekender. Hope Otherworld Miniatures gets a good retirement and all his models get picked up by other places, those undead and dragons looks really great.
I have picked up the Wargames Atlantic medieval foot knights already originally for the old world but in a change of plans I think I will take a look at the baron wars instead. I was going to pick up some of the Otherworld minis for guard guards but they have been out of stock for a while. I was hoping for a re-stock before finally retiring 🙂 Hopefully someone will pick up those minis.
Never knew how much I needed a giant homeless snail and zombie camels in my life until this week 🙂
I was another who slept on the Otherworld range instead of just getting stuck in so will need to try wrangle them once they end up at their new homes.
Those Eldertubbies are pure high octane nightmare fuel!
