Warcaster: Neo-Mechanika - 4:05
First off, we got sent some preview models of the new Sci-Fi game by Privateer Press. Warcaster Neo-Mechanika is now available on Kickstarter and there are still a few days left before the campaign closes.
We take a look at the miniatures for The Marcher Worlds and let you know what we think of the quality we've seen so far.
Indie Of The Week - 10:31
This week, Gerry picked out Brigade Games who are an online retailer but also feature all manner of different sculpts of their own design too.
As well as producing a range of awesome Napoleonic figures by Paul Hicks which are akin to Sharpe and his companions they also do some slightly more off-the-wall choices too. For example, you might want to find out what Gnome Wars is all about!

Come and take a peek at the news that we've picked for this week...
- Victory At Sea - Are you tempted by Warlord Games' new Naval adventure?
- Aliens Board Game - Clash with xenomorphs in Gale Force Nine's new board game for later this year
- Doctors & Gladiators - Take a peek at two more games getting a refresh by Gale Force Nine

Are you tempted by any of the offerings from these companies?
Voodoo Games Interview | Knight Tales - 31:52
We sit down with Andre from Voodoo Games to talk about their Kickstarter for the cooperative tower defence game called Knight Tales which is on Kickstarter right now.
With some fun models, some great board game components and loads of replay value, this is well worth checking out.
Flames Of War D-Day British - 1:20:31
We also got some time to sit down to have a look at the new D-Day British book from Battlefront Miniatures. We dive into a little bit of the book and its many facets, creating different lists which are appropriate to the period. A whole bunch of new kits and more are on the way too!
Kickstarter - 1:30:42
Take a peek at what we've spied on Kickstarter this week...
- HD Bases - Check out this awesome peek at Secret Weapon's new basing options
- PETROLYARD - A set of awesome hand-sculpted resin terrain is available for just a few more days
Which of these two Kickstarters are you most tempted by?

Happy Weekend!
Don’t mind me, I’m just here for the freebies and the winnings 😉
Fuck! Who’s the small bloke?
Yeah, I think they have a new intern sitting where Lloyd normally does.
It is pretty strange that there is only Gerry that now has a bread in studio….
Have they shaved so they can wear masks with good seals?
I have only an evil seal and neither of us wear masks. The world must know our faces!!!!!!1111!!!!!one!!!
Aren’t seals a predator to OTTers?
Hang on, we’ve already had Aliens mentioned, we don’t need to with those other funny mouthed greeblies.
Happy Weekend!!
It’s the Weekend!
Going to need to pay close attention to the D-Day British info.
Misled and misinformed by the blurb above. The discussion at 1:20:31 is not D-Day British but about another Mid-War booklet about the Paras! Still 8nteresting but not what the blurb suggests.
someone got confuzzled the big book chat as mentioned in the blurb will be on Monday, as mentioned in the video 😀
I’ll be at work on Monday hitting refresh constantly then.
5pm GMT I believe
My keyboard thanks you for this mercy.
@warzan I know you chaps are super busy…..BUT I have (yet another) suggestion 😉
I’d like to share a video from OTT to my club’s Facebook group, however I think that something that is long as the Weekender is a bit long – rather than TLDR it would be a case of TLDW (Too Long Didn’t Watch).
Plus we could have some young kids in the group, so perhaps some of the content might be a bit adult for them.
My suggestion is a quick intro vid that tells people what OTT is about, the content you put out, etc.
I’m pretty sure there at least 2 other members from the club I’m in on this site but I can’t remember anyone sharing any OTT vid to the group in the 4 or 5 years I’ve been on Facebook.
If others feel the same, please thumbs up this comment.
Happy weekender.
I think the aliens game is going to be fabulous.
Ok, I got Warren. I can see Justin. And who can miss Gerry?
Who’s the YTS guy?
The hd bases look great.
Some changes on the KS… not bad, just a bit of reshuffling… but if you had already pledged, it got cancelled and is getting a reboot. If you hadn’t pledged, then next week it will be back!
Happy weekend, the new segment with John (both) was great, more please. Also any chance we can have the Bolt Action rambles with Justin and John again, highly entertaining.
Going to resist and watch in the morning…
Love the 3D printing section the scaffold may be useful as terrain?
Guys check out the video on Danny’s you tube channel about easier support settings :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaE7YPvh4E8&t=513s
I’m whining like no one else about the Necromunda books. I’ll shush when the Orlock book come out.
For both FDM and resin printing minis, print more upright. Instead of printing wings “horizontally”, parallel to the base, stand them on their ends and print them “upright”. On an FDM machine, this probably won’t make much difference to speed. On a resin machine, it makes a *lot* of difference. Then again, I leave my prints to run overnight; so whether they take three hours or seven, it’s not really that much difference (though a failed print after three hours is always more disappointing than a successful one that takes six).
Prusa Slicer knocks Chitubox into a cocked hat for autosupports and even when placing them manually; they’re also much easier to remove post-print (before cooking under a UV lamp) – drop an IPA-soaked print into hot water and they practically fall off!
My workflow is auto-support in Prusa slicer, slice in Chitubox, validate in the Photon File Validator to remove islands, then print. Since January and after hundreds of prints, I’ve had one failure (when it was really cold in the workshop and I was too stingy to leave the electric heating on overnight!)
Fractal black is the Blackstone Fortress one.
Very excited that we finally have the British for D-Day!
Great prize and happy weekend!
Too bad if I’m locked up my work still has me working from home.
Couple of Flames of War questions involving Sherman that I hope some here can clarify…
1. I noticed the US Shermans are all the early variants with the cast hulls. Would it be more accurate to use the British boxes with the welded hulls for Late War US Shermans (or is there stuff on the models that is British specific)?
2. Did the British use MGs on top of the turret commonly? All the pictures I’ve seen don’t show any MGs (certainly no .50 Cals), but I’ve heard of .30 Cals might have been used. If you left them off (to make them more accurate) is the .50 Cal on the British Sherman Card, and would there be anyway to “discount” the Shermans for not having the Commander MGs?
..and last (non Sherman question) 🙂
3. The Churchill in the British Army Boxes, do they have to be assembled as the Flamethrower version, or can you do the bog standard Churchill.
…and Warren showing your age there with the Jim Bowen impressions 😀
1. You can if you’d like to. With the lend lease program all varieties of shermans were used in Greater or lesser numbers.
2. They were mostly removed. The tactical doctrine was to command and not spray large calibre shells over the countryside.
3. Yes it’s a plastic kit that can be made into a crocodile or a Churchill, or even a Churchill CS if memory serves
I was on my way to pledge HD Bases by Secret Weapon Miniatures, but: Funding Canceled
Funding for this project was canceled by the project creator on Mar 13 2020.
Sounds like they are going to relaunch:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/secretweapon/hd-bases-by-secret-weapon-miniatures/posts/2784537
Cheeky bastards did they just wait for us to post the show.!
Buy yourself some square bases to cheer yourself up
“Cheeky bastards did they just wait for us to post the show.!”
I would have
racist!
The fact that there were’nt any pledge levels per-se and you had to go to a different site to fill a cart with what you wanted (but not everything was available) before going back to KS and pledging that amount meant:
A) plainly just a pre-order shop rather than a ‘proper’ KS
B) backers sat on their €1 pledge until more info available
C) many potential backers were left uninspired by the thought of waiting a year for something they could pick-up in retail (likely at a discount) soo after backers.
D) who knows what they’ll be building/painting/basing in 2021?
I imagine people mainly wanted squares instead of these lackluster single edged things.
Ya weekender baby !! That’s ah great starter bundle for the British ! What ah great way to get into flames!! Well done guys!
Happy weekend one and all.
Still can’t shake the feeling the new titles give me,like a kids tv show. And by all the gods,@lloyd has a face…Losing the beard takes years off him.
I find myself divided by the Aliens boardgame, the humans look ok,as does the loader, but the queen looks really clunky.Spartacus is one of my gaming loves and i’m honour bound to pick this up asap.
It’s great for getting student rates :p
The Petrolyard stuff would be perfect for the Thunderchild Miniatures Wasteman game.
Like that new Escher stuff.
Knight Tales does look pretty cool too I must say.
The Apocalypse is here and Justin has started too look for an ice cream van. But at least The Weekender is here, plague be damned!!!
Who’s that handsome fella sitting between Gerry and Warren??
Happy Weekend… Must know the maker of the (not) Duke Nukem mini that Gerry mentioned… Please..
https://hardcore-miniatures.com/shop#w–ul-id-63-2/SCI-FI/c/40583847/offset=0&sort=normal–w
enjoy
Thanks mate looks like I need to order like 10 figures 😛
I am blameless
I am tempted by the Aliens game but I think it’s going to have to be Reich Busters all the way for me. Will be picking up a copy Wreck and Ruin as well me thinks.
The petrol yard looks very good and they would indeed be nice for Fallout.
I like the 3D printing segment in the end. I have gotten some 3D prints with the scaffolding still on and they are a pain to get of. The person I get them from always prints multiples just in case you break the model when removing them. So it’s good to get tips how to deal with that.
Happy weekend all!
Love the Blackmane model, but I do see what Gerry is saying, and I do agree somewhat. For me I would have liked both hands on the sword, mid cleave or something. However the face looks amazing and as my favourite ever 40k character, and faction I will have my order in the OTT store as soon as its available!
oh and he’ll be blonde like the old 2nd edition Ragnar!
Thanks for the show, see you tomorrow.
Where did you get young Loyydie from lol
That Aliens game is looking interesting.
Good show. Love that there now is a segment with 3d printing 🙂
The Orks will get bigger because they know how high they are relative to a space marine so when they get swapped with taller Primaris the orks will believe they should be bigger to and hey presto it’ll psychically happen.
If you go into Dunkin Donuts backstage price will get you a coffee and a donut.
It’s John! On camera!
That new Aliens game looks like it might be fun. GF9 have a god track record so worth keeping an eye open for more info and a Let’s Play.
Happy Weekend! The Flames of War British stuff look amazing!
Great show. Nice to see the shout out to Brigade Games. They do all the HMGS shows and have a great selection. Just backed the Muskets and Tomahawks nickstarter through them. Also enjoyed the mid war segment.
yeah lovely people with a great range
Happy saturday guys!
I’m with @avernos with the new-ish Ragnar, i think they missed there chance at making him more interesting… he’s mostly a slightly better one than there last Ragnar.
I’ll be revisiting the HD Bases kickstarter, i may have judge it too quickly at first glance…
See you guys on XLBS!
Cant recommend Brigade games enough, amazing models and super quick delivery and I’m in the UK! Painted Sharp and Harper in my project:
https://www.beastsofwar.com/project/1261286/
I know frig all about 3D printing, but that never stop me.
By increasing the wall thickness the wall should retain more heat and therefore allow better adhesion of the next pass.
Could the machine not be persuaded to Finnish and move away towards the inside and stop strining.
Please can someone recommend a free or nearly free alternative to Z brush suitable for the hobbyist?
@goban – all 3D modelling programs except the most basic have a steep learning curve.
Try https://www.blender.org/ Blender 3D is FREE but a top class program that’s been in development for years.
It’s got all sorts of modelling tools in it including sculpting tools similar to Zbrush.
OR https://pixologic.com/sculptris/ which I haven’t used but seems to be very Z Brush like and also FREE. This might be your best option as it looks totally focused on sculpting.
But I would say try both, they are free after all.
Because they are both free there’s loads of videos on youtube about how to use the programs (for blender for sure).
Thanks Lloyd I will give them call go. See you next year.
Wow bro that’s amazing.
I’ve been out of the loop for a while but I’m back.
FoW is a fantastic game and I for sure would love to get my hands on that set to be able to finally get on the game.
This is one of those times that I see everyone playing a game that you like but don’t have.
Well maybe I roll good for the dice gods and they grant me this one if they don’t then I’ll say like that great master called Conan the Great ” The Hell With You ” lol.
yay the weekender one of my favourite vids to watch when I get home from work on a Saturday and start my weekend.
Happy Weekend. I don’t think/believe that companies the size of Privateer Press should be on Kickstarter. This platform was intended for small and private businesses that don’t have the capital for advertising, marketing or even production, to get their idea/product off the ground. They don’t need my money to produce a new product or to ensure their costs are covered if they make something that is received as crap and no one should buy.
There are lots of companies like Privateer Press doing it, Mythic, Monolith, Cmon… they have more than enough money now that they can afford to take a risk…
But as long as people back their games… they will rake in the money.
One of the reason I stopped using ks was the above… another being that shipping costs were often ridiculously high.
I now wait for the games to hit retail where I can often get free postage and a 20% discount.
Yes, I miss out on the free plastic that they throw in as exclusives to coerce people into backing their products, but often the plastic adds little to the game… just adding to the pile of unpainted.
Happy weekend boys. Cheers from The Bay Area. Frisco was a ghost town today. Crazy with this virus stuff. I can use some Brits for FoW. ?
Happy weekend boys.
Damnit now I want a muffin.
That FoW British bundle looks like a good way to start building the Polish 1st Armored Division!
I’m very tempted by the Escher minis and always wanted an excuse to buy a few Daughters of Khaine.
I think the solution to the ‘bikini’ model would be to paint her bra silver… chainmail bikini is a fantasy trope that will never go away… and it does offer a modicum of protection… if you magnetise it so that arrows and blades are drawn away from the squishy flesh and towards the armour…
Another great weekender show! I hope we all stay healthy for more hobby time (and prizes & freebies :D).
Cracking show guys
Liked, shared, and the dong has been dinged
If there is going to be lots of free hobby time in the future, better make sure I have plenty of paint, glue and other consumables. Have plenty of miniatures. 🙂
In for the Win. Churchills all the way! (Are they Churchill’s, or is it Matilda’s? I can never recall…)
Colour me interested in the Aliens game. My daughter is quite taken with the Undead Escher.
Great Show. Thanks a lot. Happy Weekend everyone.
I’ve seen the comments that a piece on the Mid War British for Flames of War is coming but any chance we’ll see one for the new German stuff? Thinking of starting an army but being in Britain means you find a lot of people playing Allies so wondering about starting with a German force.
If stellabug doesn’t screw us Chris will be back to talk about the Waffen SS book at the end of march
So I am sure this was mentioned, but Secret Weapons had to cancel the HD base KS because of issues with how the pledges were organized….
So they are REBOOTING it next week with smoother options for pledges, stretch goals, and all that such…
So if you see this Weekender don’t be distraught when the HD Bases by SW on KS is closed!!!! Just wait till next week and jump in!!!
Wnjoyed todays episode.
Massively tempted grab the Brit stuff for Fow, and also for Team Yankee. Tough choice to know what t get first but I think TY wins.
Hi. Thanks for the news. The best place to be up to date.
I must admit that the more I learn about 3D printers the more I am put off using them. I have really excited for a long time but it just seem like a hobby in itself (instead of a tool for hobbying). Thanks for making great vids on the topic. Will hold out a bit longer until they are more plug and play.
Another Great weekender and more coming from Battlefront! “Start Your Grinning and drop your linen, we found them!” That’s a nice looking Lancer miniature
3D printers have come up in a few weekenders now and I was always of the “they’re just a fad, the price isn’t economical, the quality is too poor” mentality. But now I’ve been seeing the sort of stuff folk have been printing at home and I’ve been converted. The printed terrain I’ve been seeing lately is incredible.
Been waiting patiently for the British book, got the book, cards and tokens on the way, happy days. Already got an army headed by a parachute company but more wouldn’t go amiss.
Happy New Week, British WWII – and FoW army I have never had… Wishful thinking me thinks 🙂
Great show guy
s, and thanks for the link to Brigade Games. I never heard of them until Gerry mentioned them, will have a good look later as i like the look of the Gnome Wars. Can
t wait to get my hands on the D-Day British book, as im looking at doing a joint British American force for a meet up with friends in September. Then later on i will add to each faction, not sure what size force to go for, but probably in the region of 150 points each. Im also thinking of doing the same with a German force. Both KS are very nice and if pennies would allow i have them, but ive put a self imposed block on anymore KS for this year. I have slightly gone over board the last few years, and need to concentrate on doing some hobby not just buying hobby.
Loving Studiolevel’s Petrol Yard terrain. Really great for post- apocalyptic.
I am so elated to hear about the upcoming British DDay book for FOW as I decided to pick up the game for this very reason. Indeed, as a child and teenager, I spend many an Easter holiday and Summer holiday in our summer home in Saint Aubin Sur Mer (see the view from my old home at this link – https://www.google.com/maps/@49.3322354,-0.3941465,3a,75y,34.73h,86.12t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1smFCeopHBPV7F8x8bNnqvxA!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 ) , where the Acadians landed on June 6th. Simulating a landing with Atlantic miniatures on a sand pile was never very satisfying (but nevertheless fun) and I have long dreamed of creating a gaming environment with proper 3D terrain and troops. Armed with a 3D printer, I am now able to replicate the ocean front of Saint Aubin but was missing stats and troops to populate the battle field.
Brida would be great for a medieval/fantasy RPG.
I’ve just been told to self Isolate by the NHS, I’m feeling like ****, but a care FoW care package could come in quite handy right now!
Catching up that quarantine viewing!
