The only thing when a club starts to “own” things is that’s where the arguments (if any) will start to appear.

Buy a mat, some want a desert map, some want a winter one (you can’t make everyone happy). If the club needs to move premises, then you’ll always have a few that can’t make it to the new venue (and they want some of the clubs assets to start another club).

Politics are the bane of most clubs, and from small acorns…..

Best way is to keep it friendly, no owned assets (other than a rainy day fund), blow the extra on club events and you’ll find the atmosphere is a lot friendlier. For some reason no matter what type of club it is (could be basket weaving), you always end up with people knocking heads. Not in a “powergrab” way, more that all parties want the best for the club, but differ in the method to do so.

So keep it simple, and enjoy the club. Don’t start to “build” something out of your hobby that’s going to cause you worry and some late nights trying to do paperwork 🙂
