Only Scotland goes for a mythical national animal? I reckon the Welsh have strong opinions on this matter.
True but speaking as a Welshmen we tend to retain all strong opinions for the Six Nations, our Dragons aren’t Mythical we just fool everyone by referring to them as our dear Mother-in-law’s 😊
You’re right! I was forgetting seeing them for real on that documentary Ivor the Engine 😉

Happy Weekender all. I’m tempted to back the Railroad Ink challenge as a Christmas present for my nephew who loves his trains. 🙂👍

It’s the Weekender!
@warzan never looked better mate! I wonder if anyone has updated the OTT Wiki to use your new picture, (the one with the blue eye shade)?
@avernos once again you’ve shown me some minis that are off the beaten path that I can’t live without. The eBoB minis are fantastic! I used to play ‘Paintball’ for a couple of decades, so I had to order the two team set. While there I snagged the ‘spaghetti western’ minis and also the ‘Mighty American Eagle’ 😁, along with the larger Norman Spearman collection.
That’s no child catching car…. that’s the “Snag-A-Normie-Mobile”
Ahhh good shout
you will have to have a chitty chitty bang bang down the line now @warzan ?
Happy Weekender!
loved the show Guy’s.
Thanks for the show, see you on Sunday.
I live close to Dawkey, NO HE IS OU RS,so go away.
Personally, I will stay very far away from anything Mythic Games, their treatment of their EU non-french backers and their track record of incorrect (unplayable) rulebooks, lack of quality control and basically sending out alpha versions instead of playtested and working games being the reasons. I get that they probably pay some bills for you guys, but I wish you would be a bit more critical when picking partners you do commercials for… Please start doing background checks etc on these companies and then decide if you want to work together with them. I nowadays basically skip/ignore Kickstarter recommendations from you guys given the current track record there.
OK let’s see if we can unpack this. Which kickstarters have you backed from them?
Personally? Luckily enough only Reichbusters.
If you want to know the issues I’m referring to, check the issues
-with the 1.0 and 1.5 rulebooks for JoA issues,
-the severe delay on Solomon Kayne,
-the whole Meeple Logistics disaster and
-communication issues in Reichbuster,
-the disastrous misprints & mispacks,
-the bodged rulebook for Reichbusters.
-How it’s impossible to pack Reichbusters back up decently after unpacking and unpunching it.
All of this is widely known, all of this is well documented in several youtube reviews and in the Kickstarter comments sections on the kickstarters.
Not even to mention how they treated their employees on the Uk team.
Edit forgot the copyright issues about the second JoA KS. Where they did not pay the creator in full and dragged this out and basically tried to steal /stole the game from him and changed it.
OK so there is quite a bit to unpack here. (And lets be clear here there does seem to be a bit of you taking offence on other peoples behalf a little – but I’m gonna take everything you say at face value and talk through them 🙂 ok?)
1) With the 1.0 and 1.5 rulebooks for JoA issues
JOA was a massive project – hugely ambitious – in fact, I’m working through the boxes of it at the moment and it is frankly pretty incredible what they achieved in terms of deliverables of that project. Kickstarters on a project like this are ‘one-shots’ JOA could not have existed in any other business model – it just couldn’t. So the are pluses and minuses to this, we as gamers get something delivered that would NEVER EVER have been possible before, but… the company delivering it doesn’t have a huge amount of breathing room to deliver it. They will be crucified if it takes longer to get right, and they will be crucified if they get it out but there are issues. There is no put it out a bit at a time because of folk (ie you) won’t pay for multiple shipments where it would be drip fed out every month or two months. So If there are issues a company only has limited resources with which to fix it. On the whole though how anyone can complain about JOA after seeing what they achieved is beyond me.
2 the severe delay on Solomon Kayne
And here we go – solomon kane is delayed as the game needs extra work to get right – again its ambitious – but here it is in your list of complaints ‘because they are trying to get it right) See my poit above of damned if you do and damned if you dont.
3) the whole Meeple Logistics disaster and communication issues in Reichbuster (I’m not fully up to speed on this yet so will address it when I have actual information on hand about it) – But leo was telling me that cards etc will be re-sent to backers for free.
3b) -the bodged rulebook for Reichbusters – The game is sound – its probably one of my favourite games ever. And it’s big and beefy, Rulebooks always have mistakes – that is, unfortunately, part and parcel of our hobby. And that is what FAQ’s and second and third editions are for. These are parts of our hobby, if you expect rulebooks without mistakes it’s not going to happen… ever… – the game though is very playable – and I was playing the early editions of it. If the company is given time to pull the feedback in and improve it I think PDF updates of the rule book are perfectly acceptable.
4) How it’s impossible to pack Reichbusters back up decently after unpacking and unpunching it. – really I’m really struggling to take this one seriously. Just what lengths do you think a company can go to? This is an extraordinary complaint. I’m gobsmacked by this.
5) I have seen a couple of reviews of reichbusters – and frankly one springs to mind where the reviewer hasn’t a clue what they are talking about. These games are meaty they will only ever be truly unlocked by the ‘wargaming enthusiast’ – this is a level or ten upon the scale of tabletop gamer. So if someones passion only extends to pushing a couple of meeples around a track – I’m not going to be surprised if they struggle to fathom something like JOA or Reichbusters. The game is excellent – trust me on this, the components are beautifully produced – its again a once in a lifetime project that could never deliver any other way than Kickstarter.
6) Treatment of UK team. As far as I’m aware the decision was taken to pull all development back into the core of the business as the distributed nature of the setup was causing delays and was difficult to get the quality right. A business has a right to try and improve things (especially when these are the very things you are asking to be improved), if the UK setup had been working as they wanted it – they wouldn’t have closed it (it’s as simple as that) as a young business they will make many mistakes as they grow and find new and better ways of doing things. Really you an I would really need to be in the business to fully understand how and why decisions come around – because in my experience these decisions are never easy, and never straight forward.
7) JOA copyright – So I have seen this – its a contract dispute pure and simple. There is a contract in place and both sides are interpreting it differently. But from my reading of the statements the creator has not understood the difference between GROSS and NET. But its a very simple thing to solve. Call in the solicitors and have the contract examined, if they cant thrash it out then have a judge decide. Again why you are taking such personal offence to issues like this and the UK team is a bit beyond me – these are none of your or my business – the fact that someone wants to play it out in public suggests to me that they believe that will be more effective than the legal route. Be careful how you let your empathy for folks be utilised mate. (I have seen cases of this in our industry before – always ask yourself could this be sorted out using the legal system – if yes – then why are they not doing that?)
OK sorry for the long post, but I wanted to give you as full a response as I can as you directly called our integrity into question. We keep a pretty close ear to the ground in this industry, and ‘storms in teacups’ are treated by us as just that. To be impartial means keeping a close eye on context and ensuring that events and issues are strictly contained to the events that relate to them only – otherwise you get these spiralling conspiracy theories and dwarven book of grudge type lists.
Finally, me and you don’t need to agree on any of the above. But the above is what my assessments currently are with the information I currently have available to me. So those assessments are what we are currently working with.
Heya,
so first of all 2 things, thanks for taking the time to reply this thoroughly, second, I did not mean to attack your integrity, maybe that was perceived wrong or I could have formulated that a bit clearer, I do like you guys being in general positive about the industry. But I think that is sometimes to positive.
So let’s get back to the points you made, as you suspected I don’t agree with a whole lot of them, even though some are good points.
To the first point:
JOA was a massive project and you’re quite right damned if you do, damned if you don’t. However the rulebook issues seem to be a theme with MG, and I am on Kickstarter for quite a few years, and I have supported quite a few big and KS only projects, rulebooks can have a typo here or there, but the ones from MG are on the very extreme end of the spectrum. There are not only typos but they refer to wrong parts, wrong content number etc.
It just looks like very bad if at all proofreading etc.
To the second point:
I can live with delays, they are part of Kickstarter, but if they happen with every game you do in this huge amounts it becomes an issue. So it’s not the one delay but the number of huge delays in their projects.
To the third point:
Here I have to fully disagree. Wrong content numbers listed, the rules are at best cluttered and not working together.
Yes you can do pdfs etc. But Reichbusters is not on the bigger end of miniatures Boardgames, I have several who beat it or are in the same size area, and none have this amount of issues both in electorate and testing functionality.
You mentioned the cards as well. It’s okay to reprint those but tbh with a rulebook this lacking personally I expet the company to acknowledge and do a reprint of this as well, not work with printouts at the customer’s expense. And again this is not the first rulebook with this issues in this huge amount, that’s the problem, if it was one game and they learned from their mistakes, that would be okay, but again its happening with moe and more games.
To the 4th point:
Okay if you don’t want t take this seriously, that’s your decision, but if you see how the stuff is thrown around in the boxes after unwrapping and unpunching, maybe that’s just my sense of wanting to keep the games in a good condition as possible.
To the 5th point:
I don’t know which reviews you watched, but a good one that is critical but not damning would be the one from king of Average, I suggest you watch it, there are others around making the same point but he explains the issues with Reichbusters quite well thought out.
To the 6th point:
You may have more insight there, but before they were let go there was excellent communication and handling with the backers, after that not so much. Then they hired a perceived internet personality to basically make commercial videos with tidbits of info in 20 minutes plus long commercials for their other games. At least the perception among a lot of backers was not good of this move. Though it seems to have currently gotten a bit better again.
To point 7:
Yes, that may be the net/gross issue, though I think it is more as far from what one can read. But despite these issues, they started doing a second Kickstarter with rules and other changes without consulting the owner of the rights to the game. That leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
To the kind of 8th point you made, me taking offence on behalf of other people, that may be certainly a part of it, I do have a strong sense of justice. However, I try to do my research with Kickstarters I back, to avoid losing out. I usually am faring quite well with this. I also try to only do business with companies that behave well with their partner’s customers etc.
Lastly, I’m still a fan of you guys and am tremendously thankful for the general quality and amount of content you put out. And obviously you have to decide with whom you do business, and what is reasonable to stay viable and so forth.
I posted because I care and want to see more content and wanted to give you a reason why I skip your kickstarter segments now and why they are for me no longer (at least for now) a reason to check out a kickstarter. It was purely meant as a constructive feedback.
Again thank you for taking the time replying this thoroughly and being so open to discuss this. And again it’s not about your guys integrity. It was purely meant a nudge to be a bit more critical with some of the partners you choose 🙂
I have some eBob Normans undercoated black and ready for some paint, but since I tidied the dining room table (where I’m currently painting) I’ve no idea where the hell I put them! Lloyd should buy some, they are lovely and deserve 45 photos of how to paint the mail!
I reckon he did while others were chatting
Those Normans are very cool. I love that they are one piece as well – very cool.
he has enough Normans
Can you ever have enough Normans?
I sure hope the make new catachan models! The colonel looks so cool! I would squeeze my wallet for New IG!!!
It would be great to see them make a new set of plastic Catachans to match the Colonel…even if he is very limited.
Happy Saturday ……. and Waren meets mat is back?? Oh yeah baby
We couldn’t keep him away.
@avernos The spaghetti western minis are based on Eastwood (Joe) and Ramon in Fistfull of Dollars not The Good the Bad and the Ugly or For a Few Dollars More, so it’s right that Lee Van Cleef isn’t there. Be nice if they did sculpt from those films though.
Is it not from a few dollars more and that film ends with Van cleef as the father of the den squaring up to Ramon with the music playing from the watch. Which is why I would love to see him there long handled pistol ready
Pretty sure it’s Fistful,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WxuVau6qiiw
but to be fair could be either
no you’re right I went back and watched them and he’s actually called Ramon in Fistful. For some reason I always think of the one gloved hand as being his schtick in A Few Dollars rather than in the original.
Why do I keep coming here again and again ?
I know now : to watch Warren do the mat thing !
Keep up the good work, guys.
A lot of interesting stuff in this episode. I’m especially liking the ebob and Claymore castings stuff.
