Wargame Exclusive’s New Exarch & Alternative Battlesuits Released

Wargame Exclusive have a few big releases for the start of the year but we're going to focus in on a new character and some alternatives for those of you who like playing T'au on the battlefield. We kick off with the Arahnide Exarch...
This fellow is inspired by the Warp Spiders of the Eldar as you might imagine and actually looks pretty awesome as a replacement and alternative hero for you to drop into your Warhammer 40,000 armies.
I like the large striking talons reaching out from the back of the model as well as those Deathspinners which fire the disgustingly effective sounding monofilament wire which cuts you into little pieces.
For The Greater Good
Alternatively, you can also get your hands on some of their own designs for Battlesuits. There are a number of different variants with optional weapon sets but they are all mounted on the same suit design...
Keeping with a distinctly anime and manga theme to their creation it's cool to see this take on T'au Battlesuits which look like a hybrid between the stealthier and heavier options available to them on the battlefield.
There are four choices in all for you to pick up mirroring the weapon options that they have in the game. I think it might be cool to use these as experimental Battlesuits in a T'au army that might have access to some alternative tech, maybe even inspired by other Xenos races?

They look nice but It always seem cheap that they are just copying GW work.
That’s because GW is so big that companies like them will more likely make more money doing alternatives of GW models than coming out with fresh new games or generic fantasy or scifi models.
Why can’t they rip off Gundam models? I would be spending so much money on those types of models in a size I can game with.
Oh I wish as well. I like Gundam model design much better than GW take on the giant robot.

I really like the exarch, good to see them producing more that flesh on display minis. Suit not so much, looks hunched and head reminds me of Wall-E
I’m sorry to express it this way, but they are like parasites, taking advantage of GW’s work.
These are really nice figures, but I’ll never buy them anything.
Trouble is, with the Exarch at least, that GW haven’t done a new Aspect Warrior mini for YEARS…well except the overpriced FW ones. I’ve no intention of buying any but I can see why some people do turn to other companies.
WRT the Warpsider Exarch. I’d normally agree, but the Warpsider models are from 2nd edition; in fact, most of the entire range for Craftworld Eldar is completely at odds with GW aim of having armies in plastic (i.e. nearly all the Aspect Warriors are non-plastic). It’s not like there aren’t other armies out there with a significant amount of stuff not in plastic. Skaven Skyre weapon teams and acolytes, gutter runners are all yonks old for instance. Love the robot’s they don’t look TAU.
But only the head doesn’t look like Tau Battlesuits. The rest is just a plain copy.
The leg’s armour is the GW pattern. The wepon designs are also just copied. Upside down Ion Cannon (which is btw. not available for Crisis) and Ghost stile Burst Cannons.

You know GW totally plagiarized Gundam for most of their tau battle suits? There is plenty gundam kits from 20/30 years ago that look very similar lol.
You got that right. GW has a long history of copying other IP. With Fox going into the hands of Disney, Gw better watch out or they might go after them for Rambo, Terminator and Aliens copying.

If they look too much like GW stuff, and if we buy them instead of GW stuff, this will put pressure an GW´s price policy.
And finally our wallets may not be emptied as they used to, when GW reduce prices. And maybe they get even more people into our kobby, which is allways good.
Competition is good for any market.
Isn’t that the point, though? You don’t want to be fielding stuff that looks out of place. The aesthetic needs to remain the same otherwise you may as well be using minis from Infinity instead or something.
Warp Spiders are an astonishing I.P. but the GW models are so old 🙁
I was looking at the Made-to-Order Eldar character set and the finecast aspect warriors. The material was so poor and badly fitting. It felt like it would apart snap in my hands 🙁
Wonder is it worth reviewing some the Wargames Elite stuff for its potential in Necromunda as bounty hunters. Like the Tau one-armed commando? 🙂
Well considering GW pretty much got most of “their” IP plundering various things over the decades, turn around is fair play.
Cool models from talented sculptors – however the opinions in the thread are more interesting. There is a difference between taking inpiration from another IP and making it your own (as with the Tau and Gundam – there are a lot of unique elements to the Tau and they continue to develop) and blatant plagiarism as in the case of what we see in the hollow offerings here. Why Beasts of War chooses to cover (and therefore give exposure to) such obvious artistic theft I have no idea (better to have some integrity). People that are ok with this are probably just not fans of GW (which really is besides the point); would be interesting… Read more »
I honestly don’t understand how you could have written this with a straight face while looking at GWs different armies themselves.
And I honesty don’t think that you understand the difference between drawing inspiration from other IPs and blatant attempts to specifically design and sell miniatures for another companies games.
If GW released new plastic Aspect squads, or updated the resin Skaven stuff, or released some Elves, I’d buy it all straight away. But instead, we’re getting more Nurgle stuff, more Stormcast, more Space Marines. There’s much to admire about what GW have done in the last year or so, and while they have released a lot of stuff, it’s all very much in a very tight range. WE’s ‘Greater God’ also take GW’s Tau in a different narrative direction with its gender representation :-O But GW were never going to do a Genestealer Limo 🙁
…and would it not be cool to play a game were a Necromunda scavy climbs into a lost Greater Good battle-suit and rampages trough the Underhive Slums like District 9 🙂

I don’t know who the Greater God is in wargaming – probably Nurgle with the latest releases.
While these are clearly “inspired by” it’s not copying. Saying that GW do (did) anything but the same is a flat out lie.
The ONLY reason I won’t get any is because they don’t seem to fit anything. Too big for Stealth, too small for Ghostkeel. Hard to tell the scale but I’d expect that they’re smaller than Crisis. Pity too, because I would buy a ton of them otherwise. They’d go well with the WE models I use for Darkstrider, Shadowsun and the Fireblade.
I admit they are pretty blatant copies of GW IP, but then so are a lot of GWs models and backgrounds. In fact GW has stolen so many IPs over the years it would actually take too long to list them all out and I can’t be bothered.
I think they look cool the Tau models, got me thinking of doing a Tau/human fire warrior caste and these are the battle suits that the Human Tau followers are only allowed to use.
