Prick Up Your Pointy Ears at the Release of Scibor’s Elf

Scibor Monstrous have released the graceful, armoured form of their Elven Lord upon their store.
This 54mm scale model that Scibor have produced does provide a unique take on the fantasy elf trope, looking like a heavily armoured medieval lord rather than the usual otherworldly style sculptors try to go for.
However, now I see the finished product I have to say that I am not particularly taken with this model. Nothing about it says 'Elf' to me, except perhaps the style of his sword. The proportions look wrong too. The detail on the armour is excellent, but the size of the torso makes the legs look spindly.
How do you think this example of elf nobility has turned out?

Scibor has a tendency to make most sculpts look fat.. the upper body could very well belong to one of the dwarves. Had the harnesk been more slimmed down the model would prolly look a while lot better

Looks very stiff – almost awkward – to me. Agree with Sam to, there’s nothing to indicate to me that he’s an elf at all!

Agreed, nothing Elven in it’s physique at all. Elves are thin, dainty and their pointy ears are almost always on show.
the proportions are simply awful. I am not sure why they did that. The face looks very realistic, whilst the armour is in a different style to the face.
i really dont think he’s all that bad, and there is always the matter of artistic licence when a sculptor is making a mini of a classic fantasy race, so if scibor wants big buff elves i say go for it, and i’ll prob end up picking one up just because it looks like it would bee cool to paint up 🙂
They should have had his hair revealing his elf ear so you could tell what he was meant to be. Away from that, I agree on the idea of a buff Elf – the White Lions in Warhammer Fantasy aren’t your typical elves and are usually hulking warriors (according to the fluff anyway) and yet are still pointy ears.

Needs to have the name elf dropped from the title.
It’s a sad day when everyone thinks elves should look like Tolkien elves. Norse mythology never gave much depiction on what an Elf looked like and some historians are thinking that the Norse most likely pictured them as Dwarves just from a different land. Also Dwarves became bastardised over time from being big, strong normal looking men to short ugly men. Back to the sculpt, for todays view of Elves its a big miss but for what they may have been imagined in the first place its closer to the source material at least in body type. Germanic mythology describes elves as unearthly, and capable of enticing men with dance, even if no further details are given on their supposed grace. You tell me if that guy looks graceful. Norse poetry has elves supposedly close to “perfect men”. Hardly the case here. No one mentioned a conquistador-style armor that looks two sizes too big for the guy, nor the giant dead lion head that’s completely impractical on the shoulder. Yes the armor and in truth everything besides it being much more human is most likely not what the Germanic view of an elf should be. But you are right in that this is made for today’s tastes and views and I find even that was rather off the mark. I find this model rather nice just as is if only they didn’t go with the big belly armour.
