Before tackling the Peasants I thought I would have a go at some animals.  Cows seemed an easy choice so they were first out of the box.

Getting started

I primed half with Army Painter Skeleton Bone and the other half with Halford’s Grey Primer.  I then randomly washed them with either Contrasts Wyldwood or GW Black Ink in 50:50 mixes with Scalecolor’s Acrylic Thinners.

The cows were then dry brushed with a light grey mix.

At this point I wasn’t particularly happy with the colours.  I took a drastic step and brushed on a good coat of Army Painters Soft Tone and then sprayed it with Army Painter’s Anti Shine.  This was much better!

I dry brushed the bellies with Vallejo Luces Carne Highlights Flesh and painted the horns with the same colour.

I painted the bullocks forlocks Contrasts Apothecary White and then dry brushed with Vallejo Blanco.

The yokes were painted with Contrast Snakebite Leather and dry brushed with a light grey mix.

Finally I painted the bases with a diluted Contrast Wyldwood and added a basing mix using PVA.  Then I added some clump foliage and a piece of root for a tree.  After a splash of Isoproponol and watered down PVA to seal everything I sprinkled on some brighter green flock to add highlights.
