Really enjoyed this weekend of videos, a bit different from the usual show coverage (but then Historicon is a bit different from the usual UK based show, where it’s mainly more about traders than the games at the show). Found some info on things forgotten, things new, and perhaps some inspiration to restart more historical gaming than I’ve been doing of late. A four day show probably half kills the crew trying to cover it, so I imagine the plane back is just going to be lots of nap time for all involved. Hopefully there’s a few bits and bobs… Read more »

Definitely liked this con better – conventions have actually been a big turn off for me since, well almost forever. Very commercial, very corporate, very rushed, buy buy buy, gimmegimmegimee your $$$. As a guy who actually designs a lot of my own games, I’ve always found this a huge turnoff. But the number of folks here who were running participation games, often of their own design, was a HUGE breath of fresh air.

Fantastic work by every member of the OTT team.

Well Done!!!

It will be interesting to see and hear if anyone, both at the show and those of us who didn’t make the show, is inspired to start something new?

I always seem to snag some new, (at least to me), rules sets. But this time around, I think I’m headed to bag up some 6mm ACW minis.

I’m toying with once again getting into Napoleonics but not sure which scale I shall pick for it yet 10 mm may be the way to go. Just have to join @warforger and @silverfox8 in the hunt for the best ruleset 🙂

Madness Sir. I say its madness. I think if it was me something like Blucher by Sam Mustafa is the way to go as ive always liked the one base = a brigade idea. Of course there’s always computer assisted rules 😉

I still like the Clash of Spears idea in 10mm and I think maybe that’s where I’ll aim at for a new game

Blucher is on the list, also the fact it can be played with cards to begin with is nice. The temperature would need to reduce in hell considerably for me to use a computer to game with.

CoS I really can’t wait to get it in my hands I had a flick through the prototype book and it’s lovely, so roll on November.

For Napoleonics the idea of having to mess about with skirmishers and changes of formations is just something I wouldn’t want to deal with

Although an old set Volley and Bayonet has s pretty large following as far as I can tell

I remember Volley and Bayonet!

I like that aspect, the rock paper scissors of formations and units. I’ve been flicking through rulesets I used to fiddle with Shako and In the Grand Manner, but like most things no one set does everything I’m after

Go 10mm then you can play with Drew and I next year at Historicon We are going to bring our Armies next year and spend Sunday playing some games with them. Probably something simple like the Convention Napoleonic game we played with you. Of course with some mods like adjusting the fall back range!

I’ll also be out to Coleraine next summer so we could get some more gaming in then too @avernos

My favourites part has always been the revolutionary wars and the Italian campaign

silverfox8

Drew got Austrians and i got French from Et sans Reultat. We also picked up a few more from pendraken

There Magister Militum aren’t they?

silverfox8

ESR is from the Wargaming company. They have one of the biggest stands at Historicon’s vendor hall

torros
Cult of Games Member

Yeah but they don’t make there own figures I believe. I’m sure I read some where that the figures they sell are Magister Militum ones

Didn’t know that, good info.

I have a friend that might be willing to offload all his Russians from the wargaming company. Let ne know if you are interested and ill ask him. @avernos

I will probably go British, since I can break out the ‘skins then 😉
But I’ll check with my group if anyone is interested.

Many years ago we did a group build for Napoleonics in 6mm with everyone collecting z nation of choice. In the end we need two people collecting French yo make it work
