The Crimson Fists Celebrate 25 Years of Warhammer 40,000

A sneak peek from this Saturdays White Dwarf which shows off the limited edition celebratory miniature for 25 years of Warhammer 40,000.
The miniature is based off the art work from the Rogue Trader book which first started the future of all out war. Everyone loves a Space Marine, and with the amount of detail and work that has gone into this one it seems worth it. The model certainly conveys more of the gritty 40,000 feeling than the Games Day miniature for 2012.
The model can be placed on the display base or removed and put onto a normal sized base to lead troops into battle. It's also pretty awesome that they have taken steps to keep it as close to the original art as possible.
But the real question is of course, are you going to celebrate by buying one?

Now this takes me back…even though I never knew Rogue Trader, this was the artwork in the 2nd edition starter’s rulebook. Great mini, but I wouldn’t say “they have taken steps to keep it as close to the original art as possible” when Juan Diaz did the sculpting (he did Lelith and Isabella) meaning the details of the integrated gun could be matched as he has the skill. I think this is a modernisation of the RT central figure, more of an homage, like the 2nd edition GD mini with the updated bolter.
I still like it though. 😉
I really miss the style of the art from those days. Somehow is seems better than what we have now.
Love it! That is a fierce and dauntless sculpt! Wow..25 years of 40k hobby.Still remember getting the 1st rulebook for my birthday back when I was a sprog. Love ’em or hate ’em, beset by controversy over the last few years – price hikes, failcast etc.. GW is still the titan of fantasy gaming companies and has given me uncounted hours of fun throughout my life, even before 40k.
You have to admire their staying power in the wargaming industry. Let’s hope 40k continues to evolve and improve over the next 25 years and beyond.
Well lets hope is plastic or metal as it looks like a fun figure.
25 years?? my word where does the time go…I remember my mate bringing home a new game…1st edition warhammer (the one with the hammer on the cover and weird numbers and letters for stats in the codex)

The picture is quite noisy so much if the detail is lost. Well we’ll get better pictures soon.
Overall I really like the model, as space marines go. The retro peaky helmet in particular is really cool. Sadly the model is a finecast miniature with pretty hefty price tag (check full page spread on Warseer), so this will stay on the shelf.
I have the 2nd edition rulebook sitting right behind me, along with the Titan Legions rulebook and a couple of 2nd edition codices. I really like the retro look of the mini, though I probably won’t buy the model. This talk of old timey 40k and the whole 6th edition thing reminds meof the days when I looked at the artwork and miniatures and thought, “this is a universe I want to play in!” I miss those days. I look at 40k/Fantasy now with very cynical eyes. I no longer want to play in those universes all that much, though… Read more »
