The more I watch of Flames of War, the more I want to start playing. The biggest con is the size of the infantry, I don’t have the patience for that.
A friend of mine just 3 colored them, dipped them (army painter quickshades), hit them with matt varnish (from a spray can) and stuck some static grass on the base. Its not the greatest work up close, but from 1m away you don’t see that much difference to much detailter armies. He said he finished a 7 stand platoon in 2 hours total (without waiting time in between of course).
Another possibility: play a tank list 😀
Some lists (armies) have big infantry numbers, some have very little. Of course an infantry list will have more than a tank usually but if you take a high rating one (fearless veteran) and German at that you have very few stands indeed. It’s Soviets than have a lot more, my son’s 1750pt tank list has over 20 stands (ie 100+ figures) of infantry. But if you paint them to a gaming standard it doesn’t take too long. I meant to say did a 10 stand unit in a week. With between 10 to 30 minutes a night.

One of the Afrika Korps tricks was to use the Pak38’s in close, even as offensive weapons – they were low profiled and hard to detect, and devastating against many of the thinly armoured cruiser tanks.
Flak36/37 88’s could in reality be fired from the wheeled two arrangement though not with the same accuracy as the fully deployed cruciform mount – there is film footage of this in action at El Agheila in 1941.

Yesterday I saw a D-Day documentary, it made me think of FoW!
Well, i ordered the german 3-ton trucks for my PaK-40 platoon. Only to find out i also need a Kubelwagen.
But if i can use them to transport my rearguard platoon up across the board more effectively then it might not have been a complete loss after all.
I’m still ordering the Kubel though.
Well done chaps, always great to see another FoW video, especially as I am now really getting into the game and have run a few starter games.
The more I see this game the more I want to try it. I actually really like the scale. It feels more epic when you can have tons of vehicles and troops all over the place.

Great video guys, you shows, have made me buy the Open fire box, The small mini’s can look initimidated to paint, (specialy if you used to 28 mm ) but its not as hard as it looks 😉
