Today we return to Blood Red Skies by Warlord Games, opening up the Yak1 Squadron.
John and Justin look at the Soviet Yak1 Squadron and their ace pilot Lydia Litvyak. They discuss how these Soviet planes were easily maintained but during the war the production quality suffered. For good measure, there are some great WWII stories told by John.

Nice, but I think it will still be Yanks and Zeros for me if I jump into the game. Even if a monochrome battle of Britain could be very cool as well
I swear you guys are spying on me. I had a Yakovlev-3 and an Ilyushin-2 Sturmovik on the table just this weekend for a 15mm Kursk game. Where is the webcam you have hidden in my house? There are LAWS against that kind of thing! 😀
I’m enjoying Blood Red Skies right now. I was initially sceptical about it, but it’s turned out to be a very pleasant surprise. I found it plays quickly and the system is easy to learn. I like how the game forces players to close in on each other by making the shooting range short, but at the same time makes players dart around to avoid each other because of that.
The “Boom” token system for morale is interesting too, and seems to make the game less bloody, but quick and makes good piloting very important.
My Uncle Named his Spitfire after his girlfriend, Dorothy. When that one got shot up he named his second Spitfire after his wife, Dorothy II. LoL Not the most exciting name but still cool. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10155279889130988&id=544220987

the Zero is a light manoeuvrable fighter the Yak is to well armoured to get badly damaged by a Zero dogfighting.
