Judge Dredd: Mega-City One TV Show In The Works

If you're a fan of the 2000AD comics or you loved the film Dredd, you'll be happy to know that there is a new TV show in the works to bring the Judge to the screen once more. You can watch the announcement for Judge Dredd: Mega-City One above...
The video goes through some of the things you can expect from the show and their vision for the project with Rebellion CEO Jason Kingsley and someone you might recognise, Brian Jenkins, also known to us in the wargaming world as TemplarsCrusade01.
Here's more of what we know so far...
"Judge Dredd: Mega-City One is set in a future where east coast America has become a crowded and crime-ridden megalopolis. It will be an ensemble drama about a team of Judges – futuristic cops invested with the power to be judge, jury, and executioner – as they deal with the challenges the future-shocked 22nd Century throws at them."
...and there's more to come soon we hope as we get to know who the cast and more will be. This is great news as Judge Dredd has always been one of those properties which deserved more on-screen presence (when done right of course). Maybe you'll even break out the models and get gaming in Warlord's Judge Dredd Miniatures Game?
It will be fun to see this project coming to life and we know that a lot of you are excited for this.

Nice. I think Karl Urban expressed an interest in doing Dredd for the TV. Done right, this could be great.
Can but hope it doesn’t disappoint, sounds interesting if the focus would be more on the city than the judges, think that could make for interesting watching especially if they get the feel of the universe right. Could see in my head a season long story arch leading to a build up of a heist or something, then last episode they get pwned in 30 secs no survivors by a lawmaster drive by, no slow down fully automatic, see a judge speeding off, close up of a name badge if thats all i saw of dredd in the series i… Read more »
don’t want to be the pessimist here but this all sounds like it’s going to go the 1995 route, there’s too much in the comics that doesn’t translate to the screen well. Really like the grittier 2012 Dredd and Karl Urban has to be Dredd

Brian did concept art and set design for the 1995 version, so make of that what you will.
If they can give it the look of Stallone’s version but the feel of Urban’s I think it could be very good.
And obviously they need to keep his fucking helmet on or face hidden. ^^
The 1995 film was pretty dreadful but that sequence of the shuttle going through the Mega City is something I’ll never forget.
I’m hopeful the series can do the comic justice (sorry)

Sounds interesting and it should least be watchable as long as they don’t go 1995 movie route.
I’m looking forward to this. I think they are right on about combining the grittiness with the silliness; It’s faithful to the tone of the comics.
I bet that Dredd will not be the main character, based on the synopsis, but will show up from time to time. With his helmet on. But the main characters will probably remove their helmets frequently if the show is going to be a drama.

But it would be awesome if they can get Karl Urban on for those big moment appearance’s.
I’m also hoping this ends up on a network I can watch and not on something I don’t sub to. Because I would be sad to miss this one!

Forget Karl Urban. The only man who can truly do Dredd Justice is John Lyons.

I am one of the few that thought 1995 Dread was a fun movie? And there is a lot of crazy wacky things in the Judge Dread story so I hope they don’t drop that because that IS a part of how things are. I do love the Karl Urban Dread, he did a great job. But I would like some of the more weird and odd stuff out there. Like Rogue Robots in the sewers, magic and aliens also being a thing. The Super Max being on the Moon and what not.

I like both Dredds, and to be fair Sly’s Dredd had kept his Helmet on when in Mega-City only ‘unmasking’ when in the Halls of Justice and then unmasked when a prisioner. It kept true to many main elements of the background as can be told in 90 odd minutes to movie goers with little previous knowledge of the Dredd legend. Part of the problem was it tried and was probably sold as such as the ‘next’ Robocop. I thought the most recent Dredd movie was a perfectly watchable future cop movie, but you could have taken him out the costume and called him something else and I’d have barely noticed it was supposed to be a Judge Dredd movie. The black humour and the satire were conspicuous by their absence, and its encouraging that it seem as if Rebellion recognise that and are addressing it.
Awesome stuff. I enjoyed the recent film, large because I felt Karl Urban was spot on, the rest showed it budget a little. Anderson was good as well. Oddly on the 2000AD face book group he is proving a popular call for casting.
