The Blood Bowl Box Contents Revealed

The Blood Bowl team have shared a shot showing off the full contents of the game that will be out soon. I reckon this is going to be one of the biggest sellers from Games Workshop this year...
As you can see you get the two dug outs, which are reversible - allowing you to show off the Human and Orc teams...
Plus a fantastic board which you can also flip over. Additionally the game comes with cards for quick reference (to begin with) meaning that you have all the stats ready to go.
Of course it wouldn't be Blood Bowl without some teams and you'll get Humans Vs Orcs to duke it out with on the tabletop. I'm looking forward to this one with much gusto.

Its great to see this return, I won’t pick it up as rules are the same and I am not actually a big fan of the new sculpts. The humans in particular seem weak. One thing that stands out in contents is it not 16, so presumably blisters to bolster the team will be available?
First off I wonder if this will be supported for a longer run or is it like Space Hulk where you get the box and then done. Have not seen any specs for other teams. Also I am, despite being a long time lover of BB, wondering if it isn’t a little too late. I play Guild Ball now and for all the nostalgia BB brings Guild Ball is just a better game at this point. Steamforged took all the problems with BB and fixed them with their game in such wonderfully creative ways that I fear this might end… Read more »
With you on Guild Ball, although I do think they are very different games, I see guild ball as more of a skirmish game with a mobile objective.
Plenty of long term support (Spoke to Andy Hoare at WH Fest)
Plans for boxed game, 6 plastic teams and an expansion in the first wave, they’re hoping by Christmas, then after Christmas will be resin teams, and possibly some “new races” teams (he wouldn’t go any further than that) in the future.
An additional four teams are already planned, presumed to be sold like the core box with extra rules and new pitch layouts; Dwarves, Chaos/Nurgle, etc.
I honestly wonder if it is too late for me as well. And not because of Guildball or any of the other fantasy football games. I love Blood Bowl- I play it all the time. Since GW hasn’t released any new minis for it in decades, I’ve been using “Fantasy Football” minis from a number of different lines (Impact, Greebo, Willy) and even converting my own from various other lines of minis. maybe its because im spoilt in boxed games and miniature game starter sets nowadays, but the contents seem a bit underwhelming. Still tempted to pick it up as BB was my introduction (after Heroquest had already provided a taster) into miniature games back in ’97.
it is tempting I must admit, but I still love my first edition, ok the figures were just bits of flimsy card on slotta stands, but you got a multitude of races with rules, campaign rules so that you could see your team progress or not depending on how good or bad they were ( nothing worse than seeing a 17 match veteran with a ridiculous amount of spp’s suddenly die after a particularly lucky tackle from a rookie orc )
I don”t know what extra this edition can offer but I will be keeping my eyes on it..
I played BloodBowl way back when it first came out, I am thinking now that I might have to revisit this game and play again.
I’d like less punative rules. They can’t port Dreadball directly – despite the involvement of the splendid James H – but please tell me GW can tweak BB’s rules towards being more fun.

@Brennon can confirm on the rules. I personally like the out the box rules and Deathzone but not a fan of the living rulebook, which made it better for competitive play and less fun in my opinion
Honestly it looks a bit sparse to me. Is that pitch card stock or a mat?
I think this is going to sell great purely on nostalgia value regardless of anything. As the rules are all but untouched people should be pretty confident in knowing what they are getting, unlike the Sigmar Quest Silver Tower thingy which is not simply the old Warhammer Quest brought back.
There is a place for Blood Bowl in the market I think, but it may struggle in comparison to newer games for those not on a massive nostalgia trip for it.
That seems to be their new business strategy though, trade on the old IPs everyone loves and resents you for scrapping. At least here they are retaining the core product pretty much as is, rather than scrapping it entirely to produce a more casual friendly experience like the did with WHQ. Of course they have stripped out the experience and tournament systems so they can sell them to us later as a separate book.
Good thing the rules are unchanged and available in their entirety online.
Everyone thinks that the only market is those that played this game in the past. It seems like this is the thought process for all the games GW bring out. While I think that there is certainly a bit of that I don’t think that GW would bring out a game if the only potential market was people who played the game in the past. Rather sweeping generalist statement, that is inaccurate, there is a nostalgia play here but the reason I am glad its out is so new players can find the game
The sense I git from these comments was more that BB is a grand old lady but is showing her age in terms of games design, so its appeal is based on the strength of the brand regardless of whether it’s to old players or new players. I think that’s a fair assessment.
The only “issue” I’d argue BB has, is when you look at how it plays online, it was obviously never designed around the volume of play you can spam, to then min-max your team. And the teams that end up “breaking” BB, I’d say are dwarfs because they simply don’t die as often as other teams (also, all dwarf games play out the same), meaning it ends up being relatively easy to maintain a good team (it sort of defeats the point of BB tbh) and Chaos teams filled with Mighty Blow and Claw. I was also truly underwhelmed at the sculpts for the Human Team. At least I can find one good point….my wallet gets a rest.
Its a shame as the last two board games (Overkill and Silver Tower) contained some really nice sculpts. But I feel they may have “dropped the ball” on this one 😀
I’m all over getting this, if anything, I’ve spent money on worse things than encouraging Games Workshop to keep giving us more ‘Games.’
It doesn’t hurt that I enjoy BB for what it is, wonky rules and randomness and all. There are certainly games out there that have a more modern style and design, but I’d argue there are few that have the charm.
The way FW and GW pitch this game is rather unspectacular.
Would have been nice if they did the old, I think 2nd or 3rd edition where they had a grey polystyrene molded playing field.
It was 2e that had that. The great things about where you could customise the end zones and you could turn it into a four-player pitch if you had two of them.
Aye second ed, still have one, keep meaning to coat and paint up nice. Second ed rules also had all the weirdness of pittraps, and getting chainsaw severed heads back to your dug out. Third was an improvement.
I’m officially an old git but never played this first time round. So I’ll be picking it up, not for any nostalgic reasons but because the setting and humour really appeals.
Just in advance: I am thinking about buying the box, but some concerns are defintly excisiting: I dont know how GW was planing this release. Players could choose from a HUGE choice of third party teams to get their (maxed out) team they want. You also could choose from unlimited designs of gaming mats, BB-dices etc. In addition to that the rules were online free for years Now GW re-releases the game and “just” come over with a quite minimalistic release. Still have an older version and still play it on occasion. I still think it is one of the better things GW ever put out. Picked it up in the sometime in the early nineties. It came with Orcs and Humans. I added Rats, Gobos, Chaos Dwarfs, Chaos, and Undead. I also have several star players. Every couple of years I break it out and we run a league or two. Only played 2nd ed BB, which was enjoyable, and this could be interesting, but why have.the starter teams be generic human vs Orc, rather then more interesting races that might tempt me to buy the box for them, such as lizardmen vs Aztec Human? Currently the new box only seems really of use to anyone who doesn’t have any previous versions.
I guess from the POV of a starter set, these are the two easiest to pick up: humans (no great weaknesses) and orcs (grr smash kill)
