New Dungeon Delver, Darkholds On The Way From Mierce Miniatures

Mierce Miniatures has revealed plans for Darkholds, their adventure into the world of dungeon delving. You can check out the news in one of their recent Kickstarter updates HERE.
You will play alongside other heroes and their henchmen as they battle the forces of evil and undeath to uncover the very secret of life and death itself.
The setting is that of the rest of their miniature line, an alternative 7th Century Britain where you will be fighting as all manner of interesting and unique heroes against skeletal hordes and more.
You will have access to both campaign play as you battle through a story, or if you fancy just delving into one off games across the different levels open to you and your party. Interestingly while the game is a cooperative experience there are also secret objectives for each hero meaning that maybe you'll betray you at the opportune moment to further their own agenda.
More details on how the game plays have been included in the update linked above but it does sounds like it's going to be a fascinating game, trying something new with the format in a few places whilst borrowing tried and testing mechanics too.
It looks like we might be seeing the crew at Mierce Miniatures venturing into the world of plastic for this game as well with a range of complete figures as you see here. They do get bigger too with monstrous spiders and more!

Interesting. I rather like Mierce models, but them plastic and they look the same as their other models. Sign me up.
I’ve also liked the look of Mierce miniatures, but i’ve not wanted to buy metal, and that they seem to be doing this in plastic ( or resin perhaps? ) appeals to me. It’s difficult to tell from these pictures but the skeletons are looking good. The devil is in the details, as it were.
… And what’s more they’re going for a good number of sides on a die ( d10 ), and good ol’fashioned ruined stoney passages and the like ( though i’d probably make some 3d versions if i bought in ).
They look like PVC models.
Why does everything now have to go through fecking Kickstarter, dont companies just make games anymore. Fed up having to wait a year or more to get the game and by then usually lost some of the initial gotta have it interest.
Probably to lower the financial risk, such a boardgame could very well be a big risk and with KS money they probably can do more than they could without.
But I share your opinion, even more so with companies which do literally everything via Kickstarter.
I feel you guys. It’s a rare day that I back a KS just because so very few manage to get the ball rolling beyond the KS that you can’t find like minded players of that game.

Kickstarter makes the early design process of games so much more visible when compared to traditional publishing.
As a result it looks like a lot, but when you compare this to the amount of games that get released each year it might not be that different.
OTOH … it is an excellent platform for companies that aren’t sure if their target market is big enough to attract regular investors.
Yep, you just notice it more because it’s on KS. Which is part of the reason it’s on KS…
Other than a handful of companies, most are little more than cottage industries. There’s a big capital investment required to get a game like this off the ground, and I wish them luck.
I love me a good Dungeon-Crawler! And I love the Darklands setting and minis- though I don’t actually own any myself!
Perhaps this game may change that- I wonder if there is an exploration element, or if the map tiles are all laid out beforehand? It looks to be the latter, which is a bit of a shame in my eyes! Still, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for this one…
Lovely minis as always, plus a nice self contained entry into the setting. However, given history I will show interest when I can swap cash for physical product in my hands.
I love the design of the Mierce models but they’ve always been a bit too expensive for my tastes, especially considering I’d have to buy enough for at least one other person if I actually wanted to play a game, because nobody in my group is paying those prices on a game that may not even appeal to them. If this is priced on par with similar products, I could see myself backing it.
looks/sounds like a classic dungeon explorer game.
Those skeletons look very pretty.
The body of that giant spider is a bit too smooth, but it is creepy enough.
then again spiders are creepy as *beep*.
I wonder if the dungeon explorer genre is a new trend, because I have seen (and backed) a few kickstarters in that style recently (especially with a fantasy theme) …
Of course the advantage is that these things do tend to allow for solo play and when all else fails you’ve got good scenery & minis for traditional dungeon crawling in a RPG.

I have to admit, a fantasy Dark Ages setting isnt the first thing that I associate with a dungeon crawler, but I like it. I’ll be following that quite closely but I don’t think it’ll be massive on Kickstarter, a bit too serious for many I suspect. I am pleased that it looks to have a campaign type mode as it mentions purchasing equipment between quests and that’s a real bonus for me. Massive Darkness should be with me soon (the boat is docked at Felixstowe) so depending on how foot that is, I will probably be getting this one… Read more »
I adore Mirce’s range but have struggled to do muc hmore than paint them. This is perfect though – Heroes from across a Dark Age Briton where myths & legends were real? Delving deep into dungeons & underworld realms? Sign me the **** up 😉
The miniatures in the pictures are their existing metal/resin ones painted. Price tag is quite high £90+ will watch this one.
Perhaps will fill the gap until Heroquest 25 arrives! 🙂

This looks really, really interesting. I’ve almost bought some of their miniatures at several points in the past but they are pretty pricey. A boxed game looks like a great way to get in on it though.
This looks super interesting and I will definitely be checking the KS out!
