Footsore is definitely worth a look for some of their Viking priests. Now to track down that Viking ship.
For burial mounds, it’s Anglo-Saxons rather than Vikings, but could still spark some inspiration so might still be worth checking out – there’s a film that was released recently called ‘The Dig’ which is about the excavation of the Sutton Hoo burial mound.
If Lloyd is worried about his horse and apples being exposed to the elements, maybe he should put up some tarp curtains in his tower, make it real home-y.
😜
England has Morris Dancers prancing around the maypole, Ireland has a Viking captive pulling his guts out around a tree.
😜
vikings were massively into their mound burials
Poor wording on my part; I meant Sutton Hoo is an Anglo-Saxon burial mound rather than a Norse/Dane one, so it’s not perfect for Warren’s purposes, but could still be useful for him to look into. 😉
ahha I’m with you now.
super hot water soak bow straighten set in cold water well holding bows in fingers. the plastic is thermo elastic
I did some research while looking for undead and Draugr type 28mm minis for Nordic Dark Age fantasy settings .
Fenris Games does a Draugr warband and Draugr cavalry.
Gorgon Studios has some nice Draugr in their Norse range but unfortunately most are Sold out or OOP.
Mierce miniatures has an extensive range of Dark Age Fantasy Undead from the Jutes faction, It includes skeletons, Wight’s, undead horse riders and spiders!
Asgard Rising does some impressive 3D printable Draugr in their expanding Viking fantasy range. The Draugr are of the bony dried sinewy type. Those include fighters, bowmen, horse riders and leaders.
Ragnarok Miniatures, Colin Pattern’s (Saxon Miniatures, Vendel Miniatures, Conqueror Models) has announced an extensive Ragnarok Norse Mythology range to be launched through several kickstarters this year, including Draugr versions of different known Viking troop types, more fleshy but in diffrent states of decay. Some are shown on the Ragnarok Miniatures Facebook page. But the first Kickstarter up, march 1th, will launch evil sinister looking Nordic Dwarfs first.
Red Box Games did some nice zombie like Draugr but I guess those are all OPP.
Mantic Games Dungeon Essentials: Dungeon Dead boxed set will do as some more Eastern European Dark Age Rus type Draugr/skeletons warriors.
Knucklebones Miniatures, according their Facebook page they are experimenting with some interesting Dark Age looking Draugr/Undead.
North Star’s Oathmark skeletons do not visually fit in a Viking army, but could work in dark age roleplay and skirmish games as ancient bronze age undead adversaries.
Cmon/Riotgames Trudvang Legends the long overdue boardgame has some interesting Trudvang / Nordic style undead included.
Monolith the upcoming Ragnarok Mythical Battle boardgame is bound to have Draugr and other Nordic undead.
Warploque Miniatures is doing some 3D printable skeletons. Some might be neutral looking enough to made fit to work in a Viking style context.
Late to the party happy Sunday night 😀
@Warzan on the Vikings skellbobs.. as they are all deceased Vikings you can grab skellies from all the different periods of Viking history…so you can mix and match.
Big thanks to Jerry for recommending the movie Huntress: Rune of the Dead. I was able to watch it after the XLBS and enjoyed it. It’s definitely not a Disney Princess movie, and has a slow and steady building of story and atmosphere climaxing with a tense and frightening showdown with the draugar. I recommend it as well.
it’s a little gem isn’t it
Had an oddball idea regarding the Clontarf scenario: Instead of recreating the battle in it’s original era and terrain, on the anniversary the spirits of the warriors return to Dublin and refight the battle among the current modern terrain and oblivious citizens (except maybe a few drunk/high locals who have chemicaly stepped into the “spirit lands”).
so a regular night out in north Dublin then? 😉
