The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies Trailer Arrives!

...precisely when it means too. The new main trailer for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies has arrived showing off a lot more interesting stuff from the Orcs under Azog and Blog, Thranduil and his Elven army, the fall into madness of Thorin Oakenshield and even some more on the White Council and their attack on Dol Guldur!
There's plenty going on with the battle and much more besides and it's certainly got a darker tone as befits the end of such a momentous journey for Jackson and Company. I can't wait to check this out at the cinema and it's great that they've kept Beorn and his appearance at the battle decidedly secret as he's going to be amazing I reckon.
If you haven't already I suggest picking up the Extended Edition of Desolation of Smaug; it's a much better film for the extra 25 minutes of film you get. The extra behind the scenes stuff is awesome as well.
With the trailer up and running I'm going to be taking a closer look at what it's going to do to the tabletop game tomorrow so watch out for that.

I still take the book and the movies as two different stories though, as I think you should 😛
I’ll wait to see what sort of reviews come out. Was sorely disappointed in the last one.
So long as you don’t take it all too seriously, I find the Hobbit movies to be rather fun. I will definitely be checking this one out when it hits cinemas.
I also agree with Brennon’s assessment that the extended edition of the Desolation of Smaug is by far the superior version of the film, offering important additional context to some scenes and including elements from the books left out of the original theatrical release.
If the CGI-challenged barrel chase scene had been removed and replaced with something even semi-plausible I might have stayed for the rest of the film. What an atrocious footnote to the legacy of LOTR. It should have been one movie, and not fluffed up into three campy stinkers.
Add to that the worst kind of fan servicing in the appearance of superelf Legolas and the awful orc fight in Laketown. I’m wondering if this third film can be as bad as the first two.
I know the films aren’t everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve genuinely enjoyed both of the extended editions that have come out for Unexpected Journey and Desolation of Smaug. There are plenty of faults that I still see in the movies but not enough to put me off them completely. To put it into perspective I always think back to how I felt about the original Lord of the Rings trilogy and the kind of things they did with that that I didn’t agree with. We’re going to have to agree to disagree on these movies. I’ve been a massive fan of Tolkien for over thirty years and I absolutely hate these films. They are the embodiment of everything which is wrong with fantasy and, to a lesser extent, sci fi these days. Gone is the idea of plucky heroes battling against overwhelming odds. Gone is the charm. All of what made fantasy the thing that I loved as a youth has been sacrificed to the cult of “the awesome”. Every hero is an over the top superman. Every monster a cgi giant. That looked at first time during this trilogy awesome. This could be first The Hobbit movie that I am actually waiting for since first one.
I think I’ll go see this one.
I may not agree with PJ’s interpretation but I will be going to see this and will get the bluray(s). Middle-earth was the second introduction for me to fantasy writing (Alan Garner’s The Weirdstone of Brisingamen was the first) and I reread many of the books too many times to count.
Well that gave me the nerd chills – my reservations about second film aside I cannot wait. Got that epic feel.
Lets hope it gets some decent gaming support.
Wow! I’m really looking forward to seeing this. I’ve long been a fan of Tolkien’s ouvre,and while Peter Jackson’s interpretation of the books has been rather liberal in places, it has never diminished my enjoyment of the books or the films. The films put fantasy and SF back into the mainstream again and that’s a very good thing.
The biggest disappointment has been GWs slipshod support of the game during the tenure of the Hobbit films. Hopefully they will release something worthwhile this Christmas, even if it’s the old five armies game with a fresh coat of paint.
