Fat Dragon Games Brings Forth Dragonbite Terrain Upgrade

Fat Dragon Games has put out an announcement that they are in the process of upgrading their Dragonlock Terrain System to the Dragonlock Ultimate.
Whereas before you had to lift each terrain piece and push in a connecting clip from the underside, which at times can get a little unwieldy as the pieces get bigger.
Now with the Dragonlock Ultimate, you get these clips that look like back to back U's or a dragon's mouths that you push into the sides of the terrain pieces and snap them into place. This should make assembly of bigger pieces easier to manage.
If you are not familiar with Dragonlock terrain, it is a system of terrain pieces that you get as .stl files to print at home on your 3D printer. This allows you to print what you need and how much. Watch for my upcoming articles on 3D printing as I will have examples of this system.

Fat dragon is free to use it, but not crediting printable scenery for this and trying to patent it is going too far. I had to tell.

But the two systems are different?
Similar and probably compatible though.

Those do look rather similar to what 3D Printable Scenery put out recently, and from memory 3D put their clips out before these guys did.
Printable Scenery were definitely first. I think it’s great if we have two compatible systems, variety is great. It’s a pretty crap move though to pass it off as your own invention.
I have access to both though, so I’ll see if I can print some test pieces to see if they fit together.
Looking more closely, I don’t think they are compatible. The way they lock is entirely different. The FDG ones grip around a central “peg” whereas the PS ones grip “outwards” against the sides of the hole.
That realistically removes any cries of “rip-offs” as the two systems operate differently with the same outcome. Its like the VHS and Betamax (or Blu-Ray and HDDVD if you’re a young-un) of the 3d-printable dungeon world.
Fair enough. However, i see that FD have trade marked their clips. Since the differences between the 3D and FD clips are slight will this cause any legal issues?
