Because its Recruit A Gamer Month we had to highlight the work from bloodbeard in the community as he put together an awesome Roman RISK game for the kids at his school.
This looks like a fascinating way to include games alongside learning opportunities for youngsters and create gamers of the future.

Cheers. The Roman Risk also made for some nice counterfactual history – as Cassius the man behind the assassination ended up winning the civil war and restoring the republic. We ended the week with a ‘what really happened’ lecture before given the kids the final result of the game.
Wow, @bloodbeard that is a pretty serious deviation. But given the twists and turns that took place in the actual wars (and while conversant on the topic, certainly no expert), I could see possibilities for this happening. I mean, what if Antony doesn’t survive his defeat at Mutina? Or what if Octavian and Antony never come to terms? How does that effect the eventual start and outcome of the Battle of Philippi?
Lots of twists and turns. It’s a very interesting period in ancient history.
Octavian was also a sickly young man, he could have died in bed a lot of times. Missed multiple battles because he was in bed.
Counterfactual history is interesting – and it gives a strong base for the kids to then understand the real one.
Oh, how I’d love to visit UK Games Expo. But I know that OTT will cover it well and I’ll enjoy it through the lens of their cameras. As to shinies highlighted this week, I really want the ‘MV Australis’ from Black Site Studio. It would make for some awesome Modern Warfare scenarios in 28mm scale. (which I’ve recently been drawn into by the SITREP podcast group. I know I should focus on modern buildings first like the ‘Hotel Bagdad’ and matching MDF buildings, but this ship really draws ya in. Thanks for the mention, @templar007 – indeed Sitrep has been covering these conitainer ships (there’s more than one), and Hotel Bagdad for a couple of episodes now. MV Australis is in the episode that went up yesterday.
And there’s no “should” focus on this or that. 😀 Nautical modern warfare is something that gets practically no coverage by anybody (honestly there aren’t a lot of games out there for it) – something we might change soon on Sitrep with future coverage of the Falklands or maybe the building tensions in the South China Sea.

Those ghouls have been the best part of AoS. Glad to see them getting some love.
The undead sculpts in AOS have been magnificent.
The overall scale increase in the model range has had a beautiful result.
For the ship I was thinking of a scenario based on the start of Marvel’s Captain America: Winter Soldier. Cap, Natashia and a group of SHIELD agents drop onto a ship to rescue a bunch of hostages and retrieve some data (separate submission for Black Widow)
For the Captain America and Black Widow, I’d use the Model Knight figures.
For everyone else I’d have to hunt around.

Now that I think of it, there is at least one vampire in the Marvel canon, but Sony has rights to him for the films as he counts as a Spiderman character….
Of course there is Blade – remember the Wesley Snipes movies? – he was a vampire hunter and I think Marvel Studios have the rights to him….

If you want some figures for any Marvel game… you could always scavenge Heroclix. Usually loads of them for sale at UK Games Expo.
That ship would good for any supers game really. All you need is some rank and file minions and villain of the week.

Idea for the Ship. Does anyone remember the PC game “The Ship”? (availsble cheap on Steam). The premise is that an evil mastermind has taken over a cruise ship and the passengers are put in a kill-or-be-killed game. Each is secretly assigned to kill one other passenger, while a different passenger will be after them. Weapons can be found but some basic rules. Main rule being, you can’t kill anyone if a third party can see you do it (passenger or crew). Not sure what ruleset to use but plenty of figures out there. A fun multi-player murder fest. Sounds like a great idea, @templar007 . 😀 Some hard-core Somali or Indonesian / Malayan pirates. 😀 Another idea, using that Pacific approach and putting a great element of narrative or time pressure on your scenario … The pirates / radicals have hijacked the ship in the tight Strait of Malacca, part of the vital and vulnerable shipping lanes that lead from the Persian Gulf up to the oil-thirsty Pacific Rim economies of South Korea and Japan. Good point, @hobbyhub , and thanks for the reply. Just asking becasue I honestly don’t know, is New Zealand as concerned or as active as the US and Australia (and also the Philippines) in opposing / monitoring / countering Chinese naval expansion out into the South China Sea? Hell, I think even the Vietnamese are lining up with us as allies on this issue. Then again, the Vietnamese and Chinese have rarely been cozy neighbors.
New Zealanders don’t get to hear much of what the SAS get up to until a while afterwards, and I don’t watch a lot of TV news these days. The odd book gets written and one soldier unmasked as being a member so he could be awarded the Victoria Cross in recent times – for an action that happened in Afghanistan I think. As far as South China Sea, NZ is part of 5 Eyes so there will be intelligence sharing. We only have a few frigates and our Air Force no longer has a fighter squadron, but has good… Read more »

I think what GW have done with these boxes is indulge the ‘split-box’ community that’s out there, a lot of these 2 army sets that have come out for both 40k and Sigmar recently I’ve noticed have very good deals when you split them with a friend and I think that’s no accident. Hello team . 3 things 1) Love the fact the GW is doing a starter with two different factions for those who don’t like golden armoured reverants or ghosts.

Cheers man! It’s been an absolute blast to run this for a week. Really hectic, but such a fun game. I know a couple of students at least, will be buying resin models from Ramshackle Games (who did the casting for free). So fledgling model collectors there.

I was surprised to see you going on about how different Zone Raiders being just a ruleset was. Even in SciFi/Fantasy I would have said this was the norm rather than the exception
It really depends on how you want to classify it.
I’m basing my assumption (and it is just that) on what people use and play rather than the number of available rulesets etc 🙂
The other ruleset not mentioned in this context that is still played open model in my club is Frostgrave… whatever happened to them? 😉
It will be interesting to see if I can get interest in Zone Raiders down at the club to bring together the infinity, Necromunda (that steamed along open model before GW recklaimed it) and other sci-fimodel owners into a once a year mash-up campaign?
The new AoS boxset looks to be fleshed out with some great squeaky miniatures. I like the idea of rules which have no minis attached to them as Justin said the toofatlardies are at the forefront of that concept. I’ve wanted to get into infinity and have tried many times, I love the minis but find the rules so over complicated that it puts me off. Yeah in an effort to keep an existing player base engaged rule sets can start to spiral.
And then a company faces the backlash of its fans if it attempts to radically change.

I completely agree @warzan there is a very fine line between complexity, streamlined and most importantly playability within a given time frame.
